Suzanne Young

Suzanne Young – Editor

NYT bestselling and award-winning author of more than 20 novels. Educator specializing in story development, line edits, and queries.

Overview

Suzanne is a New York Times bestselling and award-winning author of more than 20 novels, including THE PROGRAM, GIRLS WITH SHARP STICKS, POET ANDERSON (co-authored with Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge), and Bram Stoker finalist WHAT STAYS BURIED. Her books are published in multiple languages and several of her projects have been optioned for film. Suzanne has spent close to two decades teaching writing, and has worked across corporate, creative, and international environments.

Throughout her publishing career, Suzanne has had the chance to work with some of the best editors in the business, and develop those relationships. She also hosts an annual writing retreat in Italy where she brings together writers, editors, agents, and film producers for an educational and inspiring journey--along with a lot of great wine.

Suzanne has mentored writers at all stages of their careers, helping with everything from editorial development, copy editing, proofreading, query writing, and agent and editor recommendations. She is an encouraging partner who puts her heart into her work, always pushing to develop an author's voice rather than change it.

She specializes in young adult and adult thriller novels, but she also loves romance, horror, and fantasy. In addition, she has spent years in senior marketing for a Fortune 10 company, developing brand voice and technical writings. Suzanne also works with several film producers, directors, and screenwriters.

Work experience

Simon & Schuster

Apr, 2010 — Present
I've written over 20 award-winning and bestselling novels that are cinematic and emotionally devastating (in a good way). I've also spent years developing my brand, which includes marketing campaigns, social media promotions, email newsletters, influencer partnerships, and online and in-person events. I've helped negotiate film and television rights for my books and collaborated with major studios and producers on those developments. I've worked with over a dozen publishers and built strong relationships in the industry.

Electric Postcard Entertainment

Jun, 2024 — Present
I provide developmental editing and editorial consulting for emerging and established authors. I work primarily on young adult manuscripts under NDA. Client names and projects can be provided to Reedsy for verification.

Self-employed

Dec, 2012 — Present
I work with authors, packagers, and publishers to bring stories to life. On the author side, I work with them to develop their voice and plot lines, as well as offer editing, proofreading, and query-writing services--all with an eye toward publication. For packagers and publishers, I work with existing IP or new brands to create high-interest and engaging storylines. I also host writing retreats in Italy that can bring together authors, editors, agents, and film producers for a week of networking and collaboration.
