Overview

I'm a graphic designer with 15 years of experience in publication, branding and typography. I have an MA from the London College of Communication. I've worked with clients from various industries including museums, healthcare, music and retail.

My most recent work was creating publications for the Natural History Museum in London which would be read by the general public, museum professionals, high value donors and senior british politicians.

I've also created both high quality photographic coffee table books and lo-fi zines.

Recently I designed a complex, text and reference-heavy medical book that explores drug use and it's effects.

I believe book design is a privilege for a designer as it demands that we get a full grasp of the subject matter and a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual context and the readership market that the book will exist within.

As I am instinctively curious (with an Amazon book wishlist as proof!) this is an added bonus. I can continuously learn while carrying out the craft that I love.

Beautiful eye-catching design is essential to your book's success.
But it should always be in service to the content - by illuminating and reinforcing the written word.
It should be sympathetic to the work but not conventional.
Your book's cover needs to distill it's themes into an elegant graphic composition informing the potential reader of it's intent and inviting them to pick it up to learn more.

I strive to do all this with every single project I work on.

Work experience

Senior graphic designer

Natural History Museum
May, 2016 – February, 2020 (almost 4 years)

As well as designing exhibition graphics, invitations, signage etc. my main role was designing publications including three years of annual reviews, exhibition portfolios for international partners, internal publications regarding museum operations and membership magazines.
I managed all projects from initial scoping meetings, through the various stages of development and stakeholder sign-off to final artwork for printers.
I also managed scheduling, price quote procurement from various external printers and design specs like paper types, binding and finishing.
I worked closely with senior management right up to Museum Director to design and deliver publications that were effective, rigorous and delivered on time and to the highest quality specifications.

Wayne has been amazing to work with so far (I hope to keep working with him). He came up with a number of great concept options for my book cover that really began to capture its theme and communicate it in a number of styles. We then refined them down (through a number of iterations) to a powerful final piece that I'm really happy with. Wayne is creative, diligent, flexible and generous (he w...

Wayne is a godsend to me, as I've struggled for a long time to try to format my ebooks for Amazon. He was very responsive and committed to educating me on the technical side of things ( I didn't have a clue about reflowable format and that virtually every ebook sold is reflowable and many seller platforms will only accept reflowable vs. fixed format!) He also was very patient with my question...

Wayne designed both the cover and interior of my book and did an excellent job on both. For the cover I came up with my own concept, which Wayne worked with and substantially improved upon. The design of the book's interior was no less satisfactory. The lay-out, including (as this was a work of non-fiction) the main body of the text, endnotes, index and bibliography, was thoroughly professional...

Working with Wayne was a great experience. I was a newbie author and he showed amazing flexibility and tact in delivering what I wanted, in combination with advising what was best for my book and readers. Always quick to communicate and very proactive upfront, the process was smooth and Wayne delivered a great result. I am certainly happy with the outcomes and would recommend Wayne to anyone lo...

Wayne Kehoe was a total pro, responsive to all my requests, clear communication and clarification whenever needed and a fine collaborator with an expert 'eye'. Couldn't have asked for better. He was the right guy for the book. I was lucky to find him.
