Olga Smirnova – Designer

Hi! I’m Olga, a children’s book illustrator from Ukraine, currently based in Barcelona.

I have over 10 years of experience as a freelance illustrator, working on a wide range of projects including children’s picture books, chapter books, covers, and editorial illustration for kids, collaborating with publishing houses, self-published authors, and brands.

I create illustrations that are visually engaging and thoughtfully crafted to support storytelling and resonate with young readers. I aim for my work not only to look beautiful, but also to enhance the emotion, rhythm, and flow of the narrative.

I work across both digital and traditional mediums. My illustrations are textured and detail-rich, often incorporating collage elements, unexpected shapes, and lively linework. I also enjoy creating hand-drawn typography to emphasize the visual impact of the text. I love adding small discoveries within the artwork that reward attentive readers and bring extra depth to the story.

Playfulness is an essential part of my practice, and I always strive to bring a sense of joy and curiosity into my illustrations. I enjoy experimenting with characters, styles, and perspectives to create a unique visual language for each project.
