The Elven Dancer

Fantasy

Written in response to: "Write about a secret that could thaw — or shatter — a relationship." as part of Winter Secrets with Evelyn Skye.

Through another set of eyes on the only girl, who hung outside of the newly built dance studio for humankind and elves alike. Curious about when she'd actually join it, he followed from a great distance behind her most of the week, to get home everyday. Never seeing nor crossing paths to notice where she lived around that neighborhood. Yet on this particular day, as he set foot on the concrete of the concrete. He glanced over to the art along the wall which the young girl peeked past. Eillieena tilted and tilted some more as he watched her slowly collapsing into the white glossy snow. Covered in this chilly fell she patted her head and wiped away the remaining snow off her face.

The most boisterous laugh startled her while she sat on her knees covered in snow. Eillieena heard the little boy, glaring at his feet while he passed her, "Ha ha, ha. It was hilarious to see you do that today! I mean what an entrance before you even entered the building." His stare wandered away, when he noticed her facing him. Clearing his though he told her, "You shouldn't be here! We are elves and we should never listen to humans." The boy turned away sucking his teeth and shaking his head. Eillieena's anger took over suddenly, "You're just an idiot, and mad you can't learn to dance. That human in there can clearly out-dance you any day!" After yelling she threw two snowballs, one hitting his back and the other in the middle of his head.

Quickly causing him to turn and chase after her back down the street she came from. Still slipping and falling around in the snow. Eillieena accidentally ran into the alleyway behind the school. "Ha, you think you're so funny and yet there is nowhere else to run or twirl too!" He told her, slowly trudging through the snow. Eillieena feared his evil gaze, before backing her into the corner. The back door of the building started to crack open. Eillieena's eyes shined a purple glisten, seeing a cute cat strolled between the two. Randomly the tiny cat began hissing at the boy, "Come here, What's wrong? Little!" A soft voice spoke as they exited the door.

The woman then glanced up at the children and noticed the girl's eyes changing back into brown. She also saw that her kitten had settled by then too. When the kitten strutted back to its owner, picked her up, The woman asked. "Want to tell me what is going on here?" The boy elf only shrugged his shoulder when she unexpectedly offered them both.

"Are you guys cold? At least come into my dance studio while we talk." she held the door awaiting them to decide. Eillieena was in shock since she really wanted to learn from Mrs. Teressa. While the boy followed, he whispered to the girl, "I'm only coming to make sure you get out alive!" Looking over to the Teacher who was placing the kitten in a cute structure. She yelled over, "You guys can go sit in my office over there." Pointing to the glass door while one of her students walked over to her asking, "Miss Teressa, are you recruiting new people?" Teressa glanced over to her office then announced. "Class, I will be in my office. Keep up the good work and give BB some space!"

All Eillieena could think about was their dancing, the routine she learned from those days away from-. "Thank you for your patience, My name is Teressa and you are?" She sat down after placing two bottled water in front of them. As Eillieena was about to answer, "My name is James, thank you for the warm air but I'm leaving. You should be coming, elf girl!" He stood up and placed his hand at the ready to turn the door knob. "Eillieena, nice to meet you. I threw two snowballs at James since he was being mean!" She bravely told the teacher causing him to face her once more, "Yeah, she's right. Can I go now?" Aggravated enough since she snitched. Teressa just sat there putting her thinking face on.

While the boy awaited her response, "Can I at least call someone to pick you up, if not stay warm out there kiddo." She strolled over to her computer and passed out on her phone for James or Eillieena to grab. She could only stare at this object since she never saw one before. James picked it up without hesitation before her and typed out a number he knew. "You can step in there James if you don't want us listening." Teressa teased then turned to Eillieena. "Do you dance?" She asked the young elf, seeing that she gazed at the other dancers out of her glass office door. "Yes but only for fun in the dark next to a small purple candle." Eillieena smiled.

Teressa noticed a faint twinkle in her eye then she faced back to the computer. Suddenly, James left the side room connected to the studio's room. He let out a fake cough, "Here." James held the phone near the girl's hand but she ignored him, "Can I join this school?" Eillieena stood firmly beside the boy, who seemed shocked by her clear goal at their age. "Sure, take this slip with a parent's signature on it then bring it back to me." Pointing towards the bottom of the sheet of paper. Eillieena grabbed the paper and rushed out of the room, leaving the boy behind. He darted out a few seconds after her , "Hey, wait up." James yelled but he wasn't heard. "Let's get back to work, One. Two, and three." Teressa probably went over that a thousand times that day.

While Eillieena saw how the boy searched for her but giggled to herself. "Look at this, an actual permission slip." As she twirled home, following the pathway leading her back to a bright orange sunset with the tiniest amount of yellow. "Eillieena, what are you doing out here?" A knight on a later evening asked walking behind her as they went back to the castle He surely wouldn't hear paper folding behind her over the sound of his suit. "You know you shouldn't walk around so freely you are a princess!" The king sat on his throne then stood when Eillieena bowed down, "I'm sorry, Father. Mother." She then turned, walking slowly out of the big room.

Eillieena curled up into her blanket wiping away the tear's that fell after she left. Pulling her thin headband out of her long hair, hiding away the permission slip under her pillow. The next morning, Eillieena woke up dancing with messy hair and a swooping dress all over the room. At the exact moment her room and balcony door opened up. "Miss?" Shocking the nicest grandma maid elf she had. She fainted quite suddenly in front of Eillieena. The guard inspected the issue and sent her to her father's throne room. "But I'm not going there yet." She whispered as she walked past the guard's. Skipping with her outfit and note in hand she tripped into one of the guest rooms.

Thankfully it was empty, and she quickly changed. As she grabbed the door, it unlatched before she could. Eillieena had come across a young prince talking to some other maids behind. "This room is not clean enough for me. This door knob isn't anyway." He shut the door leaving her in a dark room until. Him and his people left allowing her to take safe passage to get out of the castle. "Finally- I was freezing. I mean- Well, Eliana. I can let you join, we shouldn't dance- anymore. You shouldn't." Eillieena noticed him glaring at his wrist , snatching his arm. "This time you're writing about me on your arm." She pushed James only about a inch away.

Especially since she couldn't get her paper signed. James watched how the slip fell into the snow as she turned leaving him and her slip. James picked it up, wondering why she would leave this. He couldn't really stop her, as he unfolded the paper her saw it had only had he full name but no parent's signature. James walked home feeling bad and thinking doing elf kind of a favor, keeping elves away from humans even if his mom doesn't agree. Yet when he was faced with her permission slip, it reminded him when he laughed at Eillieena, how her face grew angry that day. "Silly boy where have you been all day?" Someone spoke out to the spaced out elf as he walked near the front door.

"Hey mom could you help me out with something?" James asked her while they headed inside. "So what's up, how can I help you?" She asked leaping onto her fluffy bed. "So there is this um- friend and she likes to dance. there is this studio and I accidentally acted-." His words slowly went silent when his mom started to cross. "Son before you continue, could you please tell me her name and how I can help. Also you weren't even nice to the girl. What am I gonna do with you?" She questioned. The next day after practically writing out what he wanted to say this time. "On paper, well that is a cute note James." His mother teased. After a second of being in the car James made sure to turn the heat all the way up. "There it is, mom. Park over there!" James yelled pointing his directions. "What is wrong?" She questioned.

"She might not come. I think I made her cry." James spoke slouching down further in his seat. James noticed a fluff of pink fur, Is she sneaking to see the dance." James asked aloud seeing that a couple seconds later his mom jumped out of the car. "Mom no please!" Struggling with his door handle, he saw his mom's presence bring a bright smile along her face. "Hey Eillieena, My name is Lyrielle Rivers and my son's name is James. he told me he thought he got your name wrong the other day so I think I guessed it." His mother told her, only thinking how she could help in this matter. "Anyway he told me you wish to attend this school?" Lyrielle asked her. "Well, yes but I have responsibilities." Eilieena told her then heard a cry out. "Ow!" James mother started to walk over to her son in the car.

Eillieena saw down the street the knights had walked into town so she quickly followed behind Lyrielle. As she walked over there she burst into a laugh when she saw James's face covered in snow. Staring at the white snow covering his natural dirty brown eyebrows. "Is that your dance instructor, Eillieena?" His mother asked pointing out as the teacher's class had finished. "Mrs. River's I told you I wont be able to do that." She turned away from them to the streets and the guard moved closer up the street. "Surely, I can sort this out." Lyrielle suggested. So the children waited in the car. "This is my car by the way, I bought it for my mom." James bragged sliding his hand on the steering wheel. Eillieena froze seeing the guards from her castle this far out. "Are those knights?" James spoke noticing a slight grey glow coming from her eye's as she couldn't hear or respond to him.

James placed his hand on her, "Eillieena?" still holding her hand she quickly told him. "I have to go, James!" Eillieena slid her hand away from his and slightly cracked open the car door. "This is your dream. Where are you going?" trying to talk her out of it, he let her go. Except he didn't jump out of the car, the guard noticed the boy elf. She told him, "I have a responsibility, James." Eillieena spoke before she left Lyrielle's gym. "Stop in the name of the Elf King! I notice there are multiple foot step's around this car." The giant guard leaned over him after noticing a small pink cloud behind him. James then leans against his car after seeing his mother tapping the guard's shoulder. "Sir these are my footsteps, you can speak with me." She cleared her throat directing them to face her as she spoke.

"Could you state you and your son's name then I would like to ask about a person we are searching for." The guard lowered his voice. "Lyrielle Rivers and this is my son, James Rivers." James stayed behind the car, helping her hold her dress over a little bit more. Eillieena couldn't listen to the guards or get the Rivers into any trouble. "Please don't worry about me?" Eillieena prepared her dress lifting it up just enough to get over a patch of snow when Lyrielle grabbed onto her hand. "If you mind sir, I'd like to escort her home with my son. Make sure the process gets home safely." She insisted, letting go of Eillieena. After Lyrielle saw the way she stared the guard down, anyone would grab a princess. They later had a debate about how they planned to get to the kingdom.

Pulling up to the castle gates they awaited them to open, "Eillieena, Open this gate faster!" The king yelled while waiting with the queen. "May I speak with your father? Eillieena." Lyrielle asked. James turned to him mom then to the princess, she nodded her head. "My daughter?" The king requested standing face to face with Lyrielle. "Your highness, I had no idea. Eillieena was a princess nor did I understand a calling which brought her to me and Mrs. Teressa dance studio." She defended. The king watched how the women described Eilllieena. "My daughter would end our relationship, our nation with our people for a mere dream." The king scoffed walking alongside the car waiting for his daughter to exit.

James got out first helping the lady out of his mother's car, presenting her to the king in good care. "Eillieena let's talk inside! Now." The king told her. "Sir, she can't go until you sign this permission slip." James huffed while some of the guards looked to each other. "And what was that boy?" The king asked him. "Again sir, A safety measure for her since she already has been taking to learn and complete the day's worth of her duties. I already learned so much from her. Mrs. Teressa may be human but she cares." James finished speaking as he held out the slip to the king. The king noticed Eillieena peeking out from behind James. The Queen and the King looked to one another, "It's up to you." The queen spoke. "Only if you, young man are the only one bringing her to and from these dance lessons. I'll sign." He grinned passing the paper back to Eillieena Alfie who will be the first elven princess dancer.
