There had been stories about people getting lost to sea or discovering new things in that same sea but there were no famous stories about a girl who could not get out of her step-moms sight that Lilly knew of. Not one. She had looked up story's about that but all she could find is a choose your own adventure book that had nothing to do with what she really wanted to know!
"Will I ever get to go out there?" Lilly asked herself staring out the window into the vast sea, one time before going to bed, even though she knew the answer would be no she still had lots of hope bubbled up inside of her.
"Why do you want to go out there?!" Her step-mom Elisabeth spit at her once she had asked that same question at breakfast the next morning.
"Because, there is more to life than your stupid cottage!" Lilly Roared back slamming her fork down on the small rickety table.
"You don't talk like that to me young child!" Elisabeth sneered through her teeth.
"What the heck do you mean I'm not a young child I'm 15!" Lilly said getting to her feet burning with anger.
"I'm not getting into this." Elisabeth exhaled, "Get out now go enjoy looking out the window or whatever you like to do in your spare time." Lilly was about to yell something back at her but she decided to leave it be, she hates Elisabeth to this day no matter what the memories still come back to her.
After a while Lilly decided to sneak out of her room, just for a bit she told herself, just for a bit.
She opened her window very slowly and quietly and froze at the sound of footsteps coming to her door, acting fast she shut the window panther fast with a slam, then she fell on her bed picked up a book and pretended to read it.
"What are you doing?" Elisabeth said entering Lilly's room her arms crossed.
"Um I'm readin' my book duh!" Lilly wisecracked looking at Elisabeth annoyed.
"Your reading?"
"Yep?"
"You book?"
What does it look like I'm doin' catching a fish??"
"Upside down?"
"Yea-- wait I am...? Oops sorry I just got so pulled into the story I turned it upside down its a 15 year old thing you know?"
"That's a dictionary."
"I know it's getting so good!" Lilly stammered trying to come up with a better thing to say.
"Just-- Yeah I'm going to leave because you're not really the type you'd call... Bright..." And just like that Elisabeth left the room, Lilly waited a good 3 or so minutes before getting up from her bed and slid the window open again and slowly snuck out into the unknown, after a while Lilly was far enough away from Elisabeth's house that she could actually breath again.
"Wow it's so... stunning!" Lilly said staring out to the vast open sea and without thinking she dove in.
The water seemed to embrace her as she sunk deep into the vast unknown she took a look around and screamed.
"How do I get out?!" She bubbled through the water then she heard sounds coming from her left and right as she panicked her heart beating rapidly.
"Look its her!" One of the things said.
"No way!" Another thing said.
"Yes way look at her hair its blue and green!" The first thing said swimming closer to Lilly.
"Huh I don't se-- Oh wow no way this can't be but wow she is..." The other thing said but stayed back.
"What are you guys?! How can I talk?!" Lilly stammered.
"Breath child breath..." The first thing said in a soothing voice.
"How?"
"Just try." Lilly took a breath and instead of water filling her lungs air did...
"It worked!" Lilly said.
"Yes I know it did. You are a mermaid..." Said the other thing coming up not afraid anymore.
"I-i am?"
"Yes you are, and I am Amber and this is..." The other mermaid said.
"Mark." The boy mermaid said.
"I'm Lilly..."
"Cool name Lilly!" Mark and Amber said, "Come join us to our town."
"What do you mean?" Lilly asked. "I'm not a mermaid."
"Yes you are my child, you're our leader." Amber said grabbing Lilly's hand and pulling her south.
"Wow..."
"Do you believe?" Mark asked her swiming beside Amber.
"Y-yes I do." Lilly said as a purple and gold tail formed on her legs and a crown fell on her head then they swam to their new home hidden in the vast deep and unknown secrets of the ocean.
Once they made it to the town Lilly gazed around in awe looking at all of the tall towers and the nail salons (No pedicures though because of their tails)
"Welcome to your new home!" Mark yelled once they made it to the town hall.
"Okay so Amber and Mark you think that this thing is the one?" A deep dark voice boomed throughout the waters interrupting the happy mood Lilly felt Lilly looked at where the voice was coming from and saw a mermaid with short black hair and a gold tail.
"Yes sir." They said looking at him and bowing slightly.
"Why do you think that?"
"Her hair, it's green and blue." Amber said
"3 Reasons."
"Well she also believes." Mark protested.
"Do you?" The mermaid leader questioned Lilly turning to her.
"Yes I do." Lilly said proudly.
"And also sir she has the crown as you can see." Mark said pointing to Lilly's shiny gold crown atop her head.
"What's your name?" The mermaid leader asked.
"I'm Lilly." Lilly said as gold and silver glitter swarmed around her lifting her in the air to the throne next to the mermaid leader and sat into it angels sang and everyone bowed for her warshiping there new leader and they all lived happy ever after the only bad thing was the lack of pedicures, but that's somemthing we can't fix!
