On the land of Eppon, the kingdom of Vradian was known for its riches and powerful dragons. The kingdom all over Eppon feared them and would never dare to go against them. When the four Houses, Eider, Forebane, Egilore, and Morozov, got together, they ambushed Vradian. House Vasilyv was massacred alongside their dragons. Sarvani's rider had sent her to hibernation to protect her from the hands of the murderers. That was the last time she had seen her companion, rider, and best friend. She took shelter inside a volcano.
The cavern lay high in the craggy peaks of the Volcano Vauxdover, where the air was thin, and the world below seemed distant, like a tapestry of black and gold. Deep within the fiery heart of a smoldering volcano, the air was thick with sulfur and the orange glow of molten lava. The cavern barriers ticked with a magical heat that permeated every crack. Amid this infernal domain, a massive form lay nestled amidst the searing rocks and flowing magma.
As the dormant dragon stirred, the ground trembled, sending ripples through the molten pool surrounding its colossal form. Sarvani's scales blazed with the intensity of the lava surrounding her. For years, she had slumbered in the belly of the mountain, hidden away from the hands of those who murdered her former rider. Her presence became a closely guarded secret known only to the world and the flames. Not even the townspeople knew of the dragon inside the volcano.
Crown Prince Aleksander had been more than a companion; he had been a confidant, a friend, and a kindred spirit. Together, they had weathered storms, faced adversaries, and reveled in the beauty of a world that unfolded beneath the canvas of the open sky. Sarvani's eyes glimmered with the reflection of shared sunsets and the luminescence of starlit nights. Aleksander had discovered her when her mother was murdered by raiders. He had taken her into his chambers and placed her on a pile of burning coal he stole from the kitchen. He was far too young to have received a dragon egg. Aleksander once told her he was to be given his father's dragon, but he wanted his own dragon. When Sarvani hatched, he taught her everything from the dragon keepers and trained her. They were inseparable since then.
Sarvani remembered the touch of gentle hands, hands that had once caressed the scales beneath her neck with a fondness that exceeded the ordinary of how the other Vasilyv riders treated their dragons. Her valiant rider had shared the skies with her, his memories intertwined like threads in the grand tapestry of existence. He would speak to her like they were each other's secret keepers.
She didn't witness the massacre of her house. Her rider had sent her away before the enemy could find her and kill her themselves. That was the last time she saw him. She and two other dragons went to hiding and waited until the Vasilyv bloodline command waited to set them free. The day she felt the bond between her and her rider snap, she almost escaped the confinement of the volcano to battle and avenge him.
But that's what woke her from her sleep. A familiar presence has made its way to the land of Vradian. Sarvani hadn't felt a presence like this since the death of her rider. A presence she'd been waiting for for years.
With a slow, deliberate move, Sarvani extended her wings, unfolding like a fiery tapestry against the cavern walls. The air crackled with the release of pent-up energy as the dragon's eyes flickered open, revealing orbs of burning crimson gold mirroring the heat of its volcanic quarters.
Sarvani took shelter inside the gigantic volcano in the center of the kingdom of Vradian. No one would dare enter the volcano. The few townspeople alive during her retreat kept her presence a secret when the enemy took over the kingdom. Even when the enemy got too close, the townspeople pushed them away.
The dragon inhaled deeply, drawing in the acrid aroma of sulfur and the smoky essence of the volcano's depths. The temperature in the cavern seemed to rise even further as the dragon's internal fire stirred to life. Lava glowed beneath its scales, casting an otherworldly glow on the rocky walls.
As Sarvani rose, the very earth seemed to respond to her awakening. Magma hissed and sizzled as the dragon's massive claws gripped the rocky floor. With each step, the ground quivered, and fissures opened, releasing ash plumes into the air. The dragon's wings flexed, sending scorching air through the cavern.
You will protect her, Sarvani. She will come and avenge us. I know she will. Protect her for me. That will be my last command to you, Sarvani. Protect and bring my child back to her homeland.
That was the last order her rider had commanded to her. She had given her oath to him and his house, and she would keep that oath.
She was ready to go home.
She would avenge the death of her former rider and his house. She will bring justice to House Vasilyv.
Sarvani approached the mouth of the volcano, its silhouette framed by the fiery glow of the molten lake. Deep and resonant, a roar erupted from her throat, echoing through the volcanic chamber and reverberating against the rocky walls. The sound carried the wrath of the inferno and the majesty of a reborn creature. All of Vradian will hear the entrance of the dragon that once ruled over their land.
The once quiet volcano bore witness to the phenomenon of a dragon awakened from her long slumber. Sarvani, the Flame in the Sky, spread her wings wide, casting a shadow that danced with the dance of flames. The world beyond the volcano awaited, and with each beat of her mighty wings, the black dragon soared toward the sky, leaving a trail of embers in its wake. Now, the return of the dragons has begun, and nothing will stop them.
