Seth Harwood

Seth Harwood – Editor

Certified Book Coach. Bestselling author of 7 novels. Iowa MFA. Harvard & Stanford creative writing instructor. 20+ years' experience.

Overview

With an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, years of experience teaching creative writing to adults through Harvard Extension and Stanford Continuing Studies, as well as an established track record in publishing—ten books released through various publishers, big and small, multiple bestsellers—I'm ready to bring all the knowledge, experience, and skill that I've gained to level up your fiction and non-fiction so you can submit with confidence, knowing your book is ready!

I've coached many authors, and I'm excited to meet you and get started by hearing about your goals, ambitions, and what you've done so far.

I start out with a free discovery call to hear about what you're looking to accomplish. Then we set up a program of meetings, action steps, and accountability to start making this happen!

I read your writing, track your progress, and meet with you regularly to answer your questions. Pretty soon, you'll actually be having FUN! That's the best goal of all!

Let's begin.

In addition to working as a writer and writing coach, I’m a basketball coach for my daughter’s 5th/6th grade, practice yoga, and hang out with my dog, Tula (an Australian Cobberdog). I also love swimming!

Praise from clients:

"I worked with Seth for my last three novels. He was instrumental in the development of publishable manuscripts, helping me with voice, plot and pacing. His feedback was thoughtful, practical—and actionable."

--Mark Coggins, award-winning author of the August Riordan series.

"Seth has helped me go from countless failed starts of short stories and novels, to finishing and publishing these stories and my first novel is out! He is great at focusing you on what needs to be done to finish and helping you realize the story you are trying to tell."

-- Elizabeth Coleman, author of City of Sevens

"My time with Seth was invaluable as a writer. He's incredibly professional and insightful. I recommend his services to any writer looking for guidance in their work or career." -- Gale Massey, author of The Girl from Blind River

"Seth has mastered the balance between being fair-minded and analytical, and being positive and supportive. He kept me on-task, and at the same time taught me how to keep myself on task." -- Lynn Bemiller, author of The Cold Warrior's Guide to Medicine

"It’s only because of Seth that I’m still working on my dream to complete a novel. I would’ve given up if I didn’t have him by my side encouraging, supporting and challenging me." -- Vicki Ferenbach, author of Corpse Pose

"Seth has helped me develop my craft, pushed me to improve my plotting, and shown me how to revise. At every step, he offered encouragement and support. It is thanks to his excellent coaching that I have finished my first thriller novel, which is not out on submission by an agent. Working with Seth is an absolute pleasure, personally and professionally." -- Alyce Werdel, author of Vengeance, a novel

I first had the privilege of working with Seth years ago when I took his course “The Gripping Read” in Stanford University’s Continuing Education department. I was so impressed with his expertise and teaching skills that, since then, I’ve gone back to him a few times for helpful feedback on my memoir. As usual, our recent work together was extremely fruitful. Seth gave the latest iteration o...

Seth knows his craft and is an excellent instructor. His review points of my manuscript were not only clearly detailed, but backed up with references to publications on writing technique. He has been very responsive to my questions and generous with his time. He has my highest recommendation.

Seth’s a solid, experienced writer and editor as well as a coach, and that makes a big difference. He has empathy for where I am in the process, every step of the way: helping to find agents to query, breaking down the often overwhelming query process into manageable, do-able steps, completing sharp query letters. I’m thrilled with the progress I’ve made sending my completed queries to agents a...
