Sam Koleilat – Designer

Hi, I’m Sam, a California-based book cover artist and illustrator. I’ve been drawing since I was eight. Thankfully, my understanding of anatomy and composition has improved since then. I have created more than 20 book covers for authors and publishers, including work in LitRPG, fantasy, romance, and action-adventure. I specialize in illustrated covers, interior illustrations, character design, and visual storytelling. I can also create title treatments and cover typography when needed.

My mission on every project is to find the character, story moment, or mood that will instantly transport the reader to the world you created. We can begin with a manuscript or a synopsis, a collection of references, a rough thumbnail, or even a character sketch you doodled in secret years ago, and never stopped thinking about (those are the best anyways).

I work collaboratively, beginning with the writer's vision first, then the characters, then the intended audience, before developing composition and layout ideas. Once we agree on a direction, and with your feedback throughout, we carry it through to the finished artwork. I also keep the process open, so you will have the opportunity to shape the result throughout.

I care about making the kind of image that gets the right person to stop and think, “I need to know what happens next!” I look forward to hearing about your world so we can bring it to life!
