Overview

'A brilliant editor, champion and expert problem-solver, always calm and deeply thoughtful' Christie Watson & Rowan Egberongbe

'Such bright energy and encouragement' Diana Evans

'Generous and sensitive and intelligent' Karen Russell

'Great generosity of spirit, intellect and passion' Damian Le Bas

After thirteen years of publishing with the Big Five, and five years of teaching for Faber Academy, I'm very confident taking a book from rough draft to shelf-ready and helping you stand out. My style is creative, kind and practical: editorial letters that are broken down into separate topics and problem-solving; clear line edits and suggestions; and guidance that's tailored to your way of writing. I always make it fun and rewarding, and I'll give you guidance that will help you grow as a writer.

I've edited novels of Gothic 19th century sea-faring, cross-dressing smugglers and dark fairytales of motherhood. I've finessed dialect from working-class Yorkshire to Jamaican patois and helped writers find their voices.

I've supported authors writing memoirs about traumatic birth, fighting the Taliban and the joy of LGBT families. I've helped journalists shape their research into books about fashion, women's health, and social services.

I've re-plotted tricky drafts into page-turners, and nurtured the kernel of an idea into a full story. I've worked empathically with dyslexic, ADHD and autistic authors and helped them flourish.

I'm offering book coaching or developmental editing and line editing, to the professional standards of a Penguin Random House Editorial Director. What I loved most about my role was working closely with an author, kindling their creativity and finding ways to make their writing shine. Now as a mentor and tutor, I'm looking forward to working with new writers. Send me a message about your project and let's begin!

I do not work on self-help, crime or thrillers, as I have less expertise in those areas.

NB: the books shown in the links below are all those I commissioned, edited and published at three of the Big Five publishers. They are links to amazon.com as per Reedsy's algorithms but I worked on the UK publications, which can be found on amazon.co.uk.

Working with Rose on my novel was nothing short of transformative. I can’t imagine a better editor to help bring a project into its next stage of life, and I can’t recommend her highly enough. 10's across the board! Rose approached the manuscript by celebrating what was working while gently and ...

Rose took more abstract ideas I had been holding for a while (under a more formal writing style associated with prior books) and helped to reinvent them into a more human, approachable style. I had asked her to "positively disrupt" and she did not disappoint with her input and enthusiasm.

Working with Rose has been one of the best decisions I've made for my memoir, *Born From Courage*. She immediately understood the heart of the story and, rather than trying to change my voice, helped me strengthen it. Her editorial letter was thoughtful, detailed, and incredibly insightful. She ...

Rose's critiques really helped us focus on making sure that the reader understands the emotion and heaviness of the events we described in our book. We took almost all of her suggestions and implemented them. A follow up review after implementing her advice validated it.

Rose is a genius. She gets it. She is responsible and reliable and you would be lucky to work with her. She is organized and an incredibly hard worker. She will treat your project like it’s her own. A beautiful human and a talented editor…I wish for you that Rose can fit you into her schedule.
