Mat Miller – Designer

I'm an illustrator and commercial artist based in Bristol, UK with over 10 years of experience working within multiple industries such as publishing, music, action sports, editorial, pharmaceutical, fashion and apparel, food/beverage and gaming.

My work is highly detailed with a focus on animals, made up creatures and humanoids often possessing otherworldly or surreal aesthetics. I use neon hues offset by more muted or pastel tones to make an attention grabbing image whether printed or on screen. I work digitally but also create my own textures and more painterly effects by hand. I scan these and implement them into my work for a unique blend of both digital and traditional.

Within my work I enjoy exploring themes of myth, folklore, magic and science fiction that take the viewer on a journey to the unknown whilst giving a sense of larger scale world building in the process.

It's very important for me to have a good dialogue with my clients to gain a sense of what is needed for any given brief. Reading the manuscript is vital to start the process. From here I will provide rough sketches and work closely with the client through to the final artwork and typography to ensure the best outcome from the brief.
