Mark Mechan – Designer

I’m a prolific book designer and illustrator, author and artist — with over three decades’ experience in print and digital publishing producing beautiful and eye-catching work.

One of my favourite aspects of cover design is to talk personally to authors about their books and find out what they really want to give their creation the cover or illustration that it deserves. It’s so important to start off on the right note before we commit anything to paper or pixel. Writing a book is a long, personal process and so it deserves a professional finish — bespoke, hand-drawn artwork with a creatively-designed flourish that will help it stand out from the rest.

I have worked as Art & Design manager across the gamut of publishing skills — covers, interiors, typography & page layout, and online promotional material.

Blending traditional and digital approaches and techniques, I’ve worked with authors and publishers across many areas including popular fiction, reference, cookery, coffee table books, poetry, learning, and literary fiction.

I’m twice published as author/illustrator of children’s picture books: Tumshie and Welly Boot Broth.
