Margherita Buzzi

Margherita Buzzi – Designer

Graphic designer who’s favorite game is to play with typography, hierarchy and the merging of images and text. Specialized in non-fiction.

Overview

When designing a book, I love playing with grids, typography and images, to create connection between pages and sections. I am excellent at collecting material, organizing it and giving it a form, always striving to obtain simplicity and elegance, while possibly surprising the client, the reader and myself.

I think working collaboratively with the client is essential to the design process, starting from the original concept all the way to refining the smallest details and selecting print finishing.

I specialise in non-fiction, reports, cookbooks, photography books, books about architecture and book covers. I also have a passion for children books (collecting and designing them).

My experiences include freelancing for Chronicle Books, volunteering as a book designer for 826 Valencia, working with first time authors and supporting smaller realities, such as non-profits and architecture studios, and their editorial needs.

The languages I can work with are English, Italian, Spanish and German.

Margherita is a talented designer and a delight to work with. My book is one in which the text and the photographs (which I took) are of almost equal importance. Margherita was tasked with designing the interior of the book (font and page layout) and the covers, and selecting and placing the photos to illustrate the text. She immediately grasped the look and feel and I was trying to achieve ...

In choosing a designer for my poetry book, I was hoping to find a professional with artistic taste, technical competence, and perhaps most important, ideas/opinions. I feel Margherita has demonstrated all three categories in our collaboration. Margherita came to the project when it already had illustrations and a design framework, but she brought her own taste, typography sensibility, and ideas...

I used Margherita's design skill on my first-ever published book of poetry and short essays. My original request stated that I wanted a cover that looked "smart, professional and fabulous." With Margherita's help, I got all three. She managed beautifully all my quirky instincts, and was fun to work with.
