Kim Fleming

Kim Fleming – Designer

I'm a passionate illustrator and book designer specialising in the children's market for over 10 years.

Overview

I have been working as a professional illustrator and designer for over 10 years.

I have fully illustrated children's books for major publishers, such as HarperCollins and Scholastic. My books have been sold into over 12 countries, and translated into multiple languages.

I also enjoy illustrating lifestyle and novelty books as well. My core skills include watercolour painting, digital illustration, typography and hand-lettering.

I have designed many of the picture books I illustrated, and have worked with self-publishers and indie publishers alike. I pride myself on translating the vision of the author or editor into engaging and compelling visuals.

I look forward to hearing about your next project!

** Please note I am currently only taking on new design projects. Unfortunately I am not able to take on any new illustration commitments at this time. Thanks!

Work experience

TLN press

Jan, 2009 — Aug, 2016 (over 7 years)

I created all print material for TLN (Teacher Learning Network), including a distinctive book series which stole more than its market share, by standing out against other books in its genre. The first book was reprinted 4 times.

I also produced over 20 publications which were constantly noted for their fresh and innovative design. I pride myself on working closely with the author or editor to realise their vision in a compelling and striking way.

Self-employed

Feb, 2003 — Present

I have fully illustrated over a dozen picture books for major publishers with my signature watercolor style. My books have been reprinted, reissued in different formats, translated, and sold into 12 countries. I have also completed the layout for many of the books I have illustrated.

My clients include HarperCollins, Scholastic, Allen and Unwin, Magination Press, Weldon Owen, Five Mile Press, Igloo Books, Black Dog Books, Funstastic, Hardie Grant, Rigby, Harcourt, Miscellaneous Press, Pearson Education, Cengage, Leader Newspaper.
