Kate Nascimento – Editor

Editing and proofreading services for authors of fantasy, dark fantasy, and horror | Comics and graphic novels | Board games and RPGs

Hi, I’m Kate (she/her). I’m based in Nottingham, UK, but I work with clients all over the world – and I edit in UK, US, and Canadian English.

I've built my career as a freelance editor and proofreader working with both traditional publishers (Pan Macmillan, Rebellion, Osprey Games/Bloomsbury, Nobrow Publishing) and indie clients. I offer a range of editing services from feedback on big-picture issues in a manuscript to a final proofread - so no matter what you're looking for from an editor, I can help!

I'm an Advanced Professional Member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), member of US Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and a Partner Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). I'm also a member of the British Fantasy Society.

Rather than me telling you how I work with authors, why not hear directly from my other clients?

"I can’t recommend Kate enough. She was quick, thorough, and she adapted to my narrator’s voice so that her suggestions never felt out of place. She provided me with all the feedback and tools I needed to clean up my manuscript. I can’t wait to work with her again on my next project!"

"Hiring Kate as an editor was the best thing I could have done for my manuscript. She had an amazing attention to detail and understanding of the story. Furthermore, her comments explained why she suggested the changes she did and should help my writing process with future projects."

"Kate is an excellent editor; timely, professional, and with fantastic feedback to any project. Her notes on my novel showed me story possibilities I had not considered, drove me to have a more dynamic cast of characters. Where I once felt like I was simply recounting the events of the story, Kate encouraged me to put myself in it, to ask deeper questions of the characters so I may find gems of truth hidden within the narrative. I absolutely cannot recommend her enough!"

"TL;DR This is the editor you want and need. "

Kate is wonderfully professional and thorough. Her work is always consistent. This is my second book for which I've hired Kate as the editor, and if my own repeat business doesn't say enough, I was absolutely thrilled with her thoroughness - going back and checking references and names in Book I to make sure we were being consistent in Book II. She's an ace and I highly recommend her.

Trusting someone else with something as personal as a first attempt at completing a written project is a wholly vulnerable prospect, yet Kate made every step of the process as seamless and enjoyable as possible. From the first message, it was clear she was looking to get involved in the review process and was happy to share options of what'd make better sense at my book's stage. Over the follo...
