Overview
ABOUT ME:
Hi, I’m Kate (she/her). I’m based in Nottingham, UK, but I work with clients all over the world – and I edit in UK, US, and Canadian English.
I’ve built my career as a freelance editor and proofreader working with both indie clients and traditional publishers, including Pan Macmillan, Tor, Rebellion, Nobrow Press, Flying Eye Books, and Osprey Games. I offer a range of editing services from editorial assessments to a final proofread of your manuscript or board game components - so no matter what you're looking for from an editor, I can help!
I specialise in editing and proofreading:
- Fantasy fiction (inc. dark fantasy, romantasy, comic fantasy, epic fantasy, urban fantasy, folk tales and fairy tales)
- Horror fiction (inc. supernatural, paranormal, gothic horror, folk horror, cosmic horror, body horror)
- Dystopian fiction
- LitRPG and gaming fiction
- Comics and graphic novels (fiction and non-fiction)
- Board games
- Tabletop roleplaying games / TTRPGs
- Mobile games
- PC games / Console games
I'm an Advanced Professional Member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), member of US Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and a Partner Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). I'm also a member of the British Fantasy Society.
TESTIMONIALS:
Rather than me telling you how I work with authors, why not hear directly from my other clients?
"I can’t recommend Kate enough. She was quick, thorough, and she adapted to my narrator’s voice so that her suggestions never felt out of place. She provided me with all the feedback and tools I needed to clean up my manuscript. I can’t wait to work with her again on my next project!"
"Hiring Kate as an editor was the best thing I could have done for my manuscript. She had an amazing attention to detail and understanding of the story. Furthermore, her comments explained why she suggested the changes she did and should help my writing process with future projects."
"Kate is an excellent editor; timely, professional, and with fantastic feedback to any project. Her notes on my novel showed me story possibilities I had not considered, drove me to have a more dynamic cast of characters. Where I once felt like I was simply recounting the events of the story, Kate encouraged me to put myself in it, to ask deeper questions of the characters so I may find gems of truth hidden within the narrative. I absolutely cannot recommend her enough!"
"TL;DR This is the editor you want and need. "
