Overview
Hi! I'm Hannah. After receiving my BFA In Communication Design I immediately became the Senior Designer at small university press in Lubbock, Texas. Most of my work has been at the press, which publishes a lot of history, memoir, poetry, short stories, as well as a variety of niche academic and regional topics. I have also been freelancing part time since spring 2020 in both university press and self-publishing spaces.
I love devising ways to represent an entire story or topic with just one image on the cover. I love that a non-fiction title often says it all and any cleverness or ironic message I want to send with a cover will come across right away. I love that poetry and short story collections allow me to be experimental. I love taking an author’s vision and making it a reality. Overall, I love when a cover packs a punch, makes you chuckle, or gives you insight into the contents of the book. I’m always excited to create something I’m proud of that feels professional and exactly the right vibe.
I love designing book interiors because I love details, and details are what makes for high-quality typesetting. I’m always excited to make the exterior and interior of a book feel cohesive, and make sure that the presence of more words doesn’t diminish the creativity of the whole book’s presentation.
Certain parts of my personal life give me a unique perspective that I can bring to my design work. These include being a queer woman, being exvangelical, and being chronically online. The less design related parts of my personal life include having pet rats, collecting stuffed animals, and doing a lot of jigsaw puzzles, though maybe solving puzzles isn’t as far away as I think it is.
I look forward to hearing about your project and working together to create something we are both proud of.
