Ginny Yttrup

Ginny Yttrup – Editor

I'm an experienced editor and award-winning author who understands the elements of a manuscript that engage and hold readers' attention.

Overview

Make your manuscript stand out! As an editor and award-winning novelist, I know what it takes to engage and hold readers' attention.

I am a developmental editor who is passionate about working with writers to develop their manuscript to its full potential. I provide developmental edits and assessments for fiction, memoir projects, and select nonfiction works.

When editing fiction and memoir, I analyze elements including structure, plot, pacing, character development, story and character arcs, and more to help the author create an engaging and satisfying book for the reader.

When editing nonfiction, I analyze the structure of individual chapters, the arc for the reader, and consider sections of the manuscript that will benefit from additional information. Again, my goal is to help the author create a satisfying product for readers.

For fiction and memoir projects, I provide a detailed editorial letter - an average of 12 pages - for either developmental edits or assessments. For a developmental edit, I also include comments and examples on the manuscript relating to the development of the story, and craft skills that will benefit from strengthening.

For nonfiction projects, I also provide a detailed editorial letter for both developmental edits and assessments. For edits, I also include comments and examples on the manuscript.

As an award-winning author, I apply my knowledge and experience to your manuscript, working closely with you, the author, to ensure your work conveys exactly what you intend.

I've worked with best-selling, multi published authors to develop their manuscripts, along with first time authors who are still learning the craft. Also, as a writing coach, I will gently coach you through the editing process, teaching as we work through the manuscript together.

What a few clients have said:

"Ginny is a writing pro who takes a manuscript from good to, oh my goodness, it’s great. With a deft eye for detail and a deep understanding of story, she improved my novel by 100 percent, and then doubled that. More than all, she guided me, as the writer, to craft places I didn’t know I could go. You’ll gain more than you can imagine by working with such an insightful, empowering, talented coach."

Patricia Raybon, Award Winning, Bestselling Author – My First White Friend, I Told the Mountain to Move,

and All That is Secret – An Annalee Spain Mystery

"Over the last decade, I’ve worked with many writing coaches. Ginny takes coaching to a whole new level, above and beyond what I’ve experienced before. She immerses herself in her client’s writing and gets to know the person behind the pen."

Cheri Gregory, Author –Overwhelmed, Exhale, and Sensitive and Strong

"Working with Ginny was a wonderful experience. She was professional and attentive, and I could tell she cared about my story and how it was presented. I learned so much from Ginny through the process. I can take those skills into my next project. Worth every penny. I trust Ginny and will be using her again for sure!"

Ginny was exactly what my novel needed. Her developmental edit of my manuscript was in depth, and in my opinion, spot on. She provided clear and comprehensive ways for me to strengthen my story, opening my eyes to things I wouldn't have picked up on, or known. She went above and beyond with some ...

As a first-time author with zero prior experience working with an editor, I didn’t have much to compare this process to—but I quickly realized I didn’t need to. From the beginning, Ginny made me feel completely at ease handing over my manuscript (a nerve-wracking moment, to say the least). She wa...

It was great working with Ginny! She’s a very experienced design editor and her thorough and honest review and summary report are exactly what I hoped to receive. I intend to use her comments, instructions, and examples to help me revise and improve my writing craft and my story.

What strategies do you use to clearly explain your editing services to indie authors new to publishing?

I've created an editing checklist to provide authors with an overview of the elements I cover in a developmental edit. The checklist also functions as a guide when writing a novel or memoir, showing all the elements the writer needs to consider as they create. Particularly helpful is leading au...
