Gareth Watkins – Editor

I’m a UK-based copy editor and proofreader with nearly 15 years’ experience in publishing, working with both traditional publishers and independent authors.

I hold an MA in Publishing and began my career at a major academic publisher before moving into freelance work. Alongside this, I undertook additional professional training with the Publishing Training Centre. Since then, I’ve worked across a wide range of fiction and non-fiction projects, with particular experience in science fiction, fantasy, crime fiction and narrative-led non-fiction.

I specialise in clear, careful editing that respects an author’s voice while improving consistency, clarity and flow. My aim is always to make the text stronger and more confident on the page, without over-editing or imposing a house style where it doesn’t belong.

I enjoy working collaboratively with authors and am especially happy to work with first-time or self-publishing writers who may be new to the editorial process. I pride myself on being approachable, reliable and clear about how I work, so authors know exactly what to expect at every stage.
