Carl had been watching the woman for over an hour. She has been sitting on a bench ever since he first noticed her, facing out to the sea, with her hands loosely in her lap. She seems to be staring ahead, not moving at all. She might be dead, for all he knows! The thought startles him somewhat. Damn, why didn't he think of that sooner? He quickly puts on a pair of sneakers and a wind breaker while shouting to his wife telling her where he's going, grabs his house keys, and runs down the stairs to the roadside. She had known for a very long time that sooner or later, it will come to this. It had to. She takes a deep breath, and looks up. Everything is slightly hazy, as if a giant smoke machine is at work somewhere. In front of her are two doors. On the left is a beautiful ornately carved wooden door, with a huge brass knocker. To her that ended any opportunity she might have had of talking her way into or out of something she wanted – he...

He is watching the sun catcher that hangs in his window. It is a happy thing to watch, because of the bright yellows, oranges and greens of the daffodils, the trees and the sun in the lead glass picture. As the sun catches it, it magnifies the rays and it makes his room glow with warmth and colour. The constant turning of the circle in the slight breeze is hypnotizing, and he keeps his eyes glued to it, but it leaves his mind free to wander. He doesn't want to think, but has no idea how to stop his brain from doing just that. He reme...
