My last day at work began with a cardboard box. They put it down on the step beside me, careful not to crush the printed castle on my surface. I found the way back to La Fourchette on a corner in Akwa, Douala. The pavement still smells faintly of rain, diesel, and fried plantains, even on today’s dry night. It’s Thursday.
