The ugly, moldy scent slaps me in the face as I say goodbye to the crisp air outside. It is immediately suffocating. Its crooked arms wrap around my neck. It breathes down my back, sending prickles down my spine. It wants me to know that I can’t leave. The scent has become a part of me; it is wrapped up in my identity.
