I stood behind the counter watching everyone in the diner eat their food. The old man, Stan, was drinking his black coffee by his usual seat by the window; the single dad and his daughter were taking 30 minutes like always trying to decide what to eat; the newly-weds were eating their breakfast without even looking at each other.
