Why Aliens Skip Earth

Trigger warning: Not a story for ones who are easily offended by everything around you. “We’re not alone,” said Nubert, as he looked around frantically. Stewie looked at Nubert with a questioning look. “Of course, we are not alone. I have you and you have me.” “I know we have each other, you dolt,” said Nubert. “But there is something else out there.” The two of them looked around, seeing little since they were in the middle of a dark forest, with a penlight to get around. Earlier, they decided to go on a camping trip, so Nubert loaded ...

Last Ride

I sat back on the nice, cushioned seat as my father backed out of the driveway onto the street. I didn’t realize at the time that this would be my last ride with my parents. For so many years, we took this drive just to get out of the house. “Today we are going to take a drive out to the country,” my father would say on many occasions. “Today we are going to take a drive in the city,” he would also say quite a bit, but less as he got older. Interpretation of country meant that we would take a drive where few people tampered with mother nat...

Looking for the Light

Samson found a corner in the abandoned house and curled up into a ball. Then he let the tears fall as he let the grief come to the forefront. He knew he had little time to grieve before his younger sister, Abigail, woke. Then he will need to put on a brave face once again as he leads his sister to this torn land. It seemed like countless years ago that the two of them were in a family of five. There is a father, Michael, their mother, Sara, and youngest brother, Joseph. A young family enjoying life as much as they could in a society that wa...

Place to Place

Weekly Contest #194

Nathaniel strolled the dirt path until he came to the village. Before he stepped forth into the dwelling, he saw the inhabitants and how they acted among each other. “This village will do well,” he muttered. He continued forth, checking out the places the people either resided in or they did business from. Places built of mud and brick. Others of wood that were either board or log. And ones made of sticks and straw. None of the places were made the same as he looked to the left and right. “They have much character in this village,” he tho...

All is Possible

Weekly Contest #189

Trigger warning: Physical abuse and thoughts of suicide. It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark. Sofia trudged on, wrapping her arms around her body to try to keep herself warm. With a light jacket and wearing jeans with holes in them, she was not prepared for this weather. But she did not care, for she had to get out of the home where she was abused by her father constantly. The one who was supposed to protect her felt his wrath after her mother died. His entire demeanor changed that fateful day. A father who s...

Conversation to Hear

“That person is surely going to hell.” “What made you a god? You know, for a fact, that person is going to hell.” “Look at how they dress. Look at how they act. Look at their lifestyle. It doesn’t take much thought to know they are going to the hot place.” “We will be surprised by who we see in paradise. Thank God we are not judged by humanity. If so, we will all be going to hell.” “I believe I’m going to heaven.” “Are you sure, mister judgmental?” “I have done a lot of good things. Better than bad.” “Have you accepted Jesus into your...

Present and Beyond

Weekly Contest #183

After reading the text, I had to sit down before I collapsed in shock. The one friend I spent much of my younger life with has suddenly died. “Too young to have died,” I thought as many memories as possible of us together came to mind. Memories of us before we went our separate ways. We just started middle school when we met for the first time. We sat next to each other and started joking about how boring the teacher was, and how we would soon be fast asleep. From there our friendship took off. We quickly found out our lives at home were qui...

Defeating Shadows

Weekly Contest #182

“Follow that car!” James called out as he jumps into the backseat of the taxi. “You are not a stalker, are you?” the driver asks, who looks like a grungy Santa Claus. “Heck no. Just please drive.” “Ok, whatever,” the driver says as he pulls out. “You know who it is that you want me to follow?” “I sure do,” James responds with disgust. James knows the man who calls himself Norsin well. Not just because he is rich and famous, but because he knew the man is disgusting. James would love to put the man down but knew there only one who will j...

Strive for the Light

Weekly Contest #181

James wept more than he has ever done in his life. A life so full of happiness quickly taken away by the evils of the land. “If I was only there to protect you,” he said of his wife, Rene, as he looked at the mound of dirt. “I could have protected you or at least gone with you to the afterlife.” It was two weeks ago that James left his cabin and his lovely wife in the woods to go to a small village for supplies. Usually, his wife went with him, but she was feeling ill that day. “I will be all right,” she told him, showing him her beautifu...

Running Out

Weekly Contest #180

There is a knock at the door. “Who in the hell is bothering me now?” asks Devlin as he gets up from his cozy chair and marches to the front door. “This better be good, for this is my seventh day. My day to rest.” Devlin opens the door, a fierce look on his face, ready to berate the one who disturbs him. He opens his mouth to speak forth foul words, but clamps it shut when he sees a young girl. Dark, curly hair, and olive skin that is the perfect color for Devlin. She is smiling as she shows off her dimples, and such large, brown eyes with ...

A Love to Read

Weekly Contest #175

Gerald is an actor. Gerald is an avid reader of countless novels. Gerald has an excellent memory, so he can recite pages from a book without looking at it. Gerald has been told many times how he can be famous for his talents. Gerald can be a rich man with his talents. What does Gerald say to these people? “I can care less about being famous or rich. The talent given used to put a smile on someone’s face. To give someone hope for the future. To make their day a little brighter. That is all I need to feel like I have done what I have been call...

Toss a Ball

“Hey son!” my father called out to me. I turned to him, expecting to be told to do a chore for him. “Did you want to go out and throw the football?” he asked. I stood there in stunned silence. I had just turned fourteen years old, and he has never asked me to do anything fun until that day. “I’m going over to my friend’s house,” I finally told him. “Oh,” he said with a moment of a dejected look. “Maybe some other time.” “Yeah. Sure.” I left that day, not knowing the opportunity to do something fun with my father would never arise agai...

Deception

James knew he was getting close to finishing his job. A job he figured will be his last one for he is getting too old to do such a task for much longer. Too many times, his life almost ended because of his reactions slowing down. More times have come where he has been wounded or inches away from death. If he continues this path, death will welcome him. Part of him welcomed it, for his life was not a pleasant one but a necessity to rid this land of the evil. “Will life be better once I am done with this job?” he asked himself many times. He...

Thaw

Weekly Contest #163

“I really wish someone will start talking so everyone won’t hear me fart,” James said to his family members. Everyone looks to James in disbelief, then they either chuckle or start laughing. “Always the one to break the ice,” James’s father, Bruce, said, giving his son a stern look, which quickly turns to an expression of gratitude. James figured the show will have to be started by him. In the past it would be mother, Loraine, starting it off, but after the stroke she says little anymore. James looks over at her from across the table and see...

Gifted

Weekly Contest #160

“The gift has been given to you. Others have lost this gift because either they did not want it or used it for their own selfish needs,” I was told many moons ago. I lowered the bucket down the empty well, knowing the results once I pulled it back up. Many will call me a fool for this well held no water for years. Of course, they did not know I had the gift to bring forth water. Water that will fill the soul in a world gone to madness. It is my job to bring comfort to ones in need. It was before I was born that the land lost its drinkable ...
