Anna stood at the stove, flipping pancakes. The butter hissed, the batter bubbled, and each pancake formed a golden crust, just the way the kids liked it, without a single dark spot. She cooked them one by one, slowly, even though she knew that in a minute someone would be shouting from the bedroom. On the table sat a bowl of batter: flour, eggs, milk, baking powder, sugar.
