Michael Carr

Michael Carr – Editor

Literary agent with 15 years of industry experience offering developmental editing, editorial assessment, and query workshopping.

Overview

I am a literary agent with over 15 years of industry experience. I have worked on numerous bestselling novels as an agent or developmental editor, and specialize in all forms of fiction, as well as biography, history, and science. I regularly teach at conferences for aspiring writers in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. My style is warm and open, but I am always realistic and firm, ready with praise, but never willing to let flaws and weaknesses slide. The industry is too competitive for second best.

In addition to developmental editing and editorial assessment, I can also work on queries as well as half hour or hour long Zoom calls to discuss submission strategy, etc.

Testimonials:

“My collaboration with Michael exceeded my expectations. His feedback was encouraging, challenging, and extremely insightful.”

— Tad Vogels

“Michael gives a perspective that pulls from an editor/writer/agent. That combination alone is golden. The ability to sum up strengths and weaknesses is bar none.”

— Logan Payne

Michael exceeded my expectations in the details of the editorial assessment he provided. He is direct, which I appreciate, and I found the vast majority of his comments to be on point. The assessment was well worth the money.

The suggestions Michael made during his development edit of my manuscript were extremely helpful. He was very thorough and helped me recognize some issues with my prose and other lingering issues. He was available for follow-up questions and I look forward to continuing to work with him on future projects.

With Michael, I received a quick turnaround at a fair price, expertise in historical fiction writing, and an insightful and valuable critique of my manuscript. Since my history setting was in Spain, and Michael is “a language nerd,” I also received many suggestions to improve what I was trying to do with the language. In the end I received 7-8 pages of critique, many in-line mark ups throughout...

Reedsy made it possible for me to find the perfect fit for a developmental editor of my historic fiction manuscript. Michael Carr responded quickly and gave a bio of himself and what the developmental edit would do for my manuscript. He was right on the money. As we completed our Zoom meeting and went over his comments, I realized what a history buff he was. He was the right one to comment on t...

Michael's feedback letter and 1:1 consult was incredibly valuable. I learned so much about the literary market, my own skills and weaknesses, and the steps I need to take to publish traditionally. He gave me specific examples of things I was doing wrong, and what a "correct" version would be. He is honest, but not mean, and a great communicator.
