Beau Avery Adler

Beau Avery Adler – Editor

An experienced in-house developmental & copy-editor, specializing in LGBTQ+, upmarket, and fantasy novels. Send me your queer books! 🏳️‍🌈

Overview

As editor at an indie press with over 10 years of in-house and freelance experience, I bring a relationship-focused approach to every project. I work closely with my clients, taking their vision into careful consideration to build something uniquely theirs. Whether your goal is traditional publishing or self publishing, I will help you create a polished manuscript that stands out in your genre.

Every writer is different, and every book is different, so I examine the scope of work on a client-to-client basis. Maybe you need a structural edit with thorough revision notes, or perhaps what you’re looking for is a copy-edit and proofread. I offer both in-text comments as well as “big picture” notes regarding pacing, character arcs, and story beats.

I read voraciously and widely, and I’d be happy to dive into your work! I love collaborating with new and emerging writers to help them carve a path for themselves in this industry.

Moreover, uplifting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ voices is imperative to me, and I understand that marginalized people can be at a greater financial disadvantage than other communities. I offer competitive, affordable rates and I'm sure we can puzzle out a pricing plan that works for you and your situation!

Beau's feedback was exactly what I needed to polish my novel. I was mainly looking for help sharpening some of my themes, as well as validation for the way I handled a diverse cast. Beau understood exactly what was needed and provided comments that made the story better, with enough explanation t...

Beau was a delight to work with. She was accommodating with my budget and delivered on time. Her edits and suggestions were very helpful, insightful and clever. And she was open to discussion and very easy to talk to. Beau's great, would love to work with her again.

I’ve been able to talk through my plot and the story development and end up with more material to work with. My brain fog has been lifted thanks to Beau’s in-depth revi...

Beau's feedback was invaluable! The notes and feedback were exactly what I was looking for when I hired them. They responded promptly when messaged, and the deliverables were returned the day of final payment. I highly recommend them for any developmental edits needed.

The whole process was so simple and, honestly, easy, especially with talking through the payment plan options before starting. Beau made both the before-and-after processes feel like a conversation rather than a business transaction. The editorial assessment notes and the margin notes I received ...
