Anna MacDiarmid

Anna MacDiarmid – Editor

Former Big Five Editor specializing in developmental editing and proofreading for commercial women's fiction and impactful non-fiction.

Overview

I am an experienced publishing professional with over a decade of experience working closely with authors to shape commercial fiction and non-fiction, most recently with Penguin Random House Canada and Bloomsbury Publishing UK.

During my eight years at Bloomsbury UK, I worked within the Academic Division before spending five years with the popular science imprint Bloomsbury Sigma, where I rose from Assistant Editor to Commissioning Editor. I then spent five years with Penguin Random House Canada, working as an Editor and Publishing Manager. Throughout my career, I have shepherded a wide range of bestsellers—from breakout women’s fiction and grip-the-edge-of-your-seat thrillers to fascinating popular science and narrative non-fiction.

While I have been lucky enough to work on a wide range of exciting titles, my absolute favourite part of the job is connecting with authors to help them realise their vision—whether we're exploring scientific stories about the Universe or developing your perfect grumpy-meets-sunshine romance trope.

Your story belongs to you. My goal is to work collaboratively to understand your vision and elevate your manuscript to make it really stand out from the crowd. I will offer constructive advice and suggestions to challenge and inspire you, but the creative control always remains entirely with you.

Whether you are looking for a deep developmental dive to shape your plot, an editorial assessment of your draft, or a meticulous final proofread to ensure your text is flawless, I am here to help at any stage of your journey. Get in touch, and let’s talk about how we can bring your book to life!
