Andy Meaden

Andy Meaden – Designer

Over 25 years in publishing design, specialising in non-fiction titles. Spent 15 years as a senior designer at Oxford University Press.

Overview

I’m a graphic designer, with over 25 years experience who specialises in book design. I spent 15 years designing covers and text designs for science, medical and academic titles for Oxford University Press, between 1995 and 2010. Since July 2010, I've continued to independently design book covers and text designs for companies such as Wiley-Blackwell, Cambridge University Press, The National Trust, Routledge Taylor-Francis, The Lancet, Radcliffe Medical Press, Polity Press, MacKeith Press and Hans Reitzels Forlag, based in Denmark. As well as publishing, I also design business logos and associated branding, websites, marketing materials and large scale conference materials.

I can turn around cover and text designs on a tight timescale and always to budget. I like to work closely with authors in order to achieve the results they are after.

I've designed covers for all manners of subjects over the years from Agriculture, Art, Business, Economics, Computers and IT, Education, Engineering, Children's Cooking, Fashion, Finance, Health and Sports, History, Law, Maths, Music, Nature, Philosophy, Biographies, Technology, Environment, Culture, Politics and Transport.

Some comments from clients I've worked with:

'I have worked with Andy on a number of projects in a variety of contexts, from publishing, product branding to corporate promotional materials. He is always flexible and willing to put that extra effort in no matter what challenges I put to him. His work is consistently good and always easy to approach. I have full confidence in recommending him.' (Angela Francis, Freelance Social Media and Marketing Consultant)

'Andy is a great designer and I worked with him on numerous cover designs for medical books. A lot of the covers Andy designed for my projects were for series titles and he consistently delivered fresh and engaging end results. I would recommend Andy to anyone looking for excellent design solutions.' (Laura Quigley, KEHS Careers)

'It is always an absolute pleasure to deal with Andy Meaden,in truth one of the most professional, efficient and talentedfreelance designers I have worked alongside on coverdesign projects, thank you Andy. (Gareth Toye, Routledge)

'Andy has the knack of hitting the brief every time, he worksincredibly fast with market leading flexibility over client leadtimes. Andy adds a lot of value with every project he getsinvolved with and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. (Rob Iles, Founder of Visionise Ltd.)

Not a good match for our project. Back and forth communication didn't get us any closer to the acceptable book cover design.

Andy was amazing - I’d looked at his previous work and as I’d hoped it was just what I needed. His cover design was consistent with the 1st edition but strikingly different and the organisation of the internal layout was spot on. The real added value came from the positioning and sizing of the cartoon - the whole effect was more than I could have hoped for. Very much enjoyed our interaction and...
