Amy Martin

Amy Martin – Editor

Copyeditor & Proofreader of fiction (romance/thriller) and nonfiction (biography/history). Works as Managing Editor at indie publisher

Overview

With more than half a decade of editorial experience, I provide high-quality copyediting and proofreading services to authors writing in both fiction and nonfiction. I have edited projects of various lengths, ranging from short stories and essays to full-length novels and series. I pride myself for having a quick turnaround time and offering an engaging collaborative experience.

My ultimate goal is to help authors create the best versions of their stories, free of errors and inconsistencies. While I am meticulous with details, I promise not to take away my client’s voice from their writing. I reference the Chicago Manual of Style, but I can use another preferred style guide upon request.

For copyediting, I use Microsoft Word (can use Google Docs if preferred) and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency throughout the manuscript. For proofreading, I focus on polishing the text for any typos and formatting issues through Adobe.

I'd love to hear what you're working on!

Work experience

Diversion Books

Nov, 2025 — Present
I am the head of project management for all first prints and reprints at Diversion Books and its imprints, Radius Book Group and Influx Press. I oversee production schedules for book interiors, covers and jackets, bound galleys, artwork, and ebooks. In coordination with a network of 20+ freelancers (including copyeditors, proofreaders, designers, and illustrators), I act as a liaison between them and the in-house team. I also handle print orders with more than five printers, in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Freelance

Sep, 2022 — Present
I conduct thorough copyediting and proofreading of manuscripts, meticulously checking for adherence to the Chicago Manual of Style and respective publisher style guides, overall consistency, intentional formatting, and accurate grammar and spelling. I've previously worked on fiction and nonfiction titles for publishers such as Zando, Diversion Books, HarperCollins Publishers, and Spiegel & Grau.

Neuwirth & Associates

Nov, 2023 — Oct, 2025 (almost 2 years)
I coordinated with in-house teams for the creation of book interiors, bound galleys, and eBooks, using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud programs to prepare manuscripts for typesetting, review corrections from authors and editors, relay editorial corrections to designers, and copyedit covers and marketing materials. I also manage production schedules of hardcover originals, paperback conversions, and jacket materials for different publishing clients, including Zando, Diversion Books, McNally Jackson, HarperCollins Publishers, and Row House Publishing.

Sun News Media

Nov, 2022 — Apr, 2024 (over 1 year)
I reported to this local newspaper in Southwest Florida, particularly for the Sunday arts section, where I wrote about upcoming local events, art shows, and current art trends. I conducted interviews with local artists and authors, business owners, museum curators, TV show producers, and more.

Rhode Island Monthly

May, 2021 — Aug, 2021 (4 months)
I reported to the regional magazine and assisted on various projects, including fact-checking articles, researching local art events/shows and lifestyle trends, and pitching story ideas.

The Hawks' Herald newspaper

Sep, 2020 — May, 2022 (over 1 year)
I oversaw a team of three to five writers in the Features section of the university's student-run newspaper, and I approved story pitches from writers and edited their submitted articles in accordance to the newspaper's style guide.
