Editor, author and creative writing tutor with eight years of experience in trade publishing. Commercial and book club fiction.

Overview

Hello!

If you've landed here because you're looking for a second pair of eyes on your book or need constructive feedback to take your project forward, I hope you know you've found a welcoming and supportive space, as well as an editor with the experience to help your book become the strongest it can be.

As an author myself, I know how scary it can be sharing your work, whether it's for the first or the fiftieth time. My novels, THE SILENT TREATMENT and THE ENDS OF THE EARTH, have been published by Penguin in the U.K., HarperCollins in the US and in over a dozen languages worldwide and I’ve been a Radio 2 Book Club Pick. But none of that happened without my own share of struggles: keeping confidence through to the end of a first draft; the tedium of editing; the inevitable stumbling blocks. That's why I always ensure I work collaboratively and positively, even when making tough suggestions.

My editorial skills were honed and refined at Curtis Brown Literary Agency where I assisted a senior agent on an amazing roster of authors which included Jojo Moyes, Clare Mackintosh and Santa Montefiore. Not only has this given me a shrewd commercial eye, but it also gave me invaluable training in providing the very highest quality editorial reports on commercial and book club fiction manuscripts. I am solutions-focussed and will happily help brainstorm plot holes, character consistency, whatever you need. Having reviewed thousands of submissions from authors, I am also especially well placed to read and review agent-submission packages; I know what it takes to make your queries shine and, most crucially, to find the right home for your work.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than helping authors to bring the best out of their work so, if you are looking for an approachable, professional and committed editor for your submission package or novel, please don't hesitate to get in touch to tell me about your project and ask for a quote.

I’d really love to hear from you,

Abbie x
