As a children's magazine and book designer I bring a fresh, bright, and modern style to all my projects, for kids and adults alike!

Overview

Reviews (1)

I am a freelance designer and art director. I've worked with American Girl publishing as an art director on their award-winning magazine, as well as printed books and ebooks, for the past 7 years. Designing for children is a skill and passion of mine that I bring to all my projects whether it's for kids or adults. You'll find I have a bright, clean, and often whimsical style. My specialty is in magazine covers and layouts, but I work in all mediums from printed (books, calendars, etc.) to digital (ebooks, online games, videos, etc.). I can handle everything from designing eye-catching covers, producing photo shoots, and commissioning illustrators. As well as project managing and meeting tight deadlines within budget. I am proudest of my typographic skills but can handle most challenges thrown my way. Batters up!

Work experience

Freelance Designer

Paula Riley is self-employed

February, 2015 – Present (almost 2 years)

The majority of my experience is in magazine and book art direction and design (including ebooks as well as full re-designs). I also have solid experience in advertising, branding, and stationary design such as catalogs, logos, websites, invitations, etc. for a variety of clients. Some of my more notable projects were with American Girl, Duluth Trading Company, Aubre Andrus, LLC., American Advertising Federation, and the Literacy Network. But I'm very flexible and have worked with a variety of clients including independent authors, advertising agencies, start-ups, artists, bloggers, and non-profits. There isn't much that I haven't tackled in the 10+ years as a designer. But I think my true accomplishment is the amount of awards, recognition, praise, and opportunities I've received during my career which has been the inspiration that keeps me going.

Paula was a tremendous asset as she assisted me with an unexpected project that required redesigning my book. Her patience, positive attitude and solution oriented approach was incredibly appreciated. She also went above and beyond in providing some additional feedback that made my book even better. I would highly recommend her!
