Natalie Hanemann

Natalie Hanemann – Ghostwriter

I'm a professional ghostwriter who specializes in writing memoir and personal growth book for both Christian and General Market authors.

Overview

I'm a ghostwriter who has worked in publishing for 25+ years. I worked inhouse for nearly a decade at one of the Big Five publishers. In 2012, I left to start my own freelance business. My expertise is crafting nonfiction books where story is forefront and the message is realistic while also offering the reader hope. I partner with authors to produce a professional, relatable book that will impact the reader at a deeper level. I've ghostwritten memoir and personal growth titles. Authors tell me one of my strengths is my natural ability to hold space with them to tell a deeper version of their story, a version they don't usually share with others. Astute, analytical, and a thoughtful listener are other descriptions clients have shared about my style. At 45, I earned my Master's degree in theology and one of my personal passions is exploring the intersection of creativity, wilderness, and spirituality.

Work experience

Self-employed

Apr, 2021 — Present
Working as a developmental book editor for 25 years prepared me to take the leap into ghostwriting during COVID. Since then I've ghostwritten 8 books and am on a shortlist of recommended ghostwriters for a number of literary agents. Over the past five years I've ghostwritten: 2 memoirs in Christian Living, 1 memoir from a secular author, 3 personal growth, 2 business books I also published a devotional under my own name: Light of the World (based on an animated film on the life of Jesus to release November 2025) I recently was a featured speaker on a LinkedIn live workshop titled "Why Is Ghostwriting So Expensive."

A developmental edit includes a thorough going-through of the manuscript, highlighting the big-picture observations of your story. This book editing service includes pinpointing areas that need additional work specific to: characterization, tone, theme, plot, and pacing. I provide the author with a comprehensive editorial letter, outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the book and suggest ways to fix the problems. I mark up the Word document using Track Changes.

HarperCollins-Thomas Nelson

Jun, 2004 — Sep, 2012 (over 8 years)
I began as a production associate in 2004 with Thomas Nelson. After 18 months I moved over to Fiction Associate Editor. From there, every two years I was promoted, first to Fiction Editor, then Senior Editor, finally to Acquisition Editor.
