I am an editor and writer who has worked on both the editorial and the agency side of book publishing, as well as having worked with and read submissions for multiple literary magazines. I have edited fiction spanning many genres, from short stories and upmarket fiction to literary sci-fi and horror. I have provided editorial feedback on YA and middle grade short stories and novels, and I'm happy to give insight on how to streamline a query letter and make it stand out.

I earned my MFA at Columbia University, and I've had many of my own stories published, so I also have a unique perspective on the editor-author relationship, and pride myself on open and empathetic communication with authors.

"Kerry Cullen is an exceptional editor with incredibly sharp editorial instincts. She has the rare ability to provide structural and thematic feedback along with granular, sentence-level suggestions. She has an eye for distilling the essence of a story and communicating this with clear, actionable edits. I have rarely worked with an editor who has her poetic sensibility to language and empathy for the writer. Kerry is also incredibly fast—she immediately grasped the themes of my novel and articulated the central tensions and character relationships in ways I had struggled to put into words."

Kerry is a fantastic editor with a wonderful eye for detail - I can't recommend her highly enough. Her advice was tailored perfectly to the manuscript, and it was clear she'd put a lot of thought into all aspects of her assessment. Plus, she's very approachable and easy to work with. I don't think you can possibly go wrong by choosing Kerry as your editor. :)

Kerry was great from the start. She read the sample I sent and expressed a genuine interest in the work that was encouraging. Her character and plot insights were spot on. She also pointed out some problematic bits in the draft that helped us avoid some pitfalls around stereotypes and race. Her line edits are on point and do a good job of highlighting when we were being vague, cliched, or redu...

This is the second book that I chose Kerry to edit. She have done another outstanding job and I could not be happier with her input. Her depth of knowledge and ability to share it has helped me develop my skills in ways I could never have foreseen prior. The bottom line is that she has made me into a much better writer and has turned my manuscripts into works that I am extremely proud of.

I cannot say enough good things about Kerry's editing and feedback. Her critique was thoughtful, concise, easily understood, and generous while being absolutely honest. It was obvious that she read and thought deeply about the work I shared. Her comments all pointed toward my vision of the piece. Never did I feel that she was attempting to change or alter my work to a fit a different style of...

Kerry was amazing! This was my first book and I was worried about getting some bad feedback but all of Kerry's feedback was amazing. She made some great points about my story and didn't make me feel like my book was bad. Would definitely work with her again and hopefully, I'll get the chance to work with her again.
