Harma Makken – Designer

I’m a graphic designer and illustrator specialized in book design and content-driven publications. I design books as a whole, where concept, illustration and layout come together in one consistent visual system.

I’ve designed over 150 PhD theses, often working with complex and text-heavy content. This experience helps me bring clarity, structure and visual coherence to every project.

Illustration plays an important role in my work. I use it to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging visuals that strengthen the narrative of the book.

I work on both fiction and non-fiction, especially projects where content and form need to align into a strong visual concept.

Working together is structured and transparent. I guide you step by step, from the first idea to print-ready files, with clear communication and defined feedback moments.

I’m based in the Netherlands and work with clients internationally.
