Overview
As a specialist developmental editor, I live to help writers bring their stories out into the world.
I'm always on the lookout for books that "comfort the disturbed or disturb the comfortable." The stories that spirit us away to another world or tackle the deep questions of life. Does your novel have big ideas or emotions? Is it dark and dystopian, or perhaps set in the natural world? Does it draw on history or myth? And are your characters going to steal a piece of my heart? If so, then count me in!
I've spent decades studying stories and how to write them, and as an award-nominated speculative fiction author, I don't intend to stop now. I have a degree in English with Creative Writing and, in 2016, I was fortunate enough to attend the prestigious Clarion West writers workshop—where I learned from a wide range of publishers, editors, and agents, as well receiving one-on-one tuition from giants of the SFF community like N.K. Jemisin and Elizabeth Bear.
As an editor, I bring all that experience to the table and use it to help my writers really shine. It's less about judging whether a story is "good" or "bad", and more about finding the beating heart of your book—the reason it sets you on fire—and helping you to bring the best possible version of that into the world. I give your manuscript a deep read, making sure that it has what it takes to attract an audience, catch an agent's attention, or is just as close as possible to the shining vision you had when you first started writing. I advise on "big picture" elements like pacing, character arcs, worldbuilding, and conflict, and help you make them stronger, clearer, and more powerful. I can also answer any questions you have about the publishing industry, and make sure that by the time we're done, you know exactly where you're going next.
Stories, and the way they move our souls, have always fascinated me.
I would love to help you with yours.
