Why is ID verification required
We make an effort to keep the Reedsy marketplace a safe and trusted space. With that in mind, we sometimes request professionals to submit proof of their identity. This is so we can be confident that the talent in our community is genuine.
Verifying your ID is the last step before your profile is visible on the marketplace and available for requests.
How to verify your identity
The option to verify your identity is only available if your profile has been approved.
To get verified, have a form of identification in hand. It can be a national ID, passport, or driver’s license. On your profile editing page, scroll to the “Verify your identity” section and click “Start verification”. We partner with Stripe for the ID verification process.
Follow the instructions on the screen. If you’re on your computer, you will have the option to continue the verification on your phone or tablet. We recommend this option to take pictures of you and your ID, but you can also use your computer.
It usually takes less than 2 minutes to check your credentials. Once done, you will see an “Identity verified” notice on your profile.
Having trouble?
- Check your email. You may have received additional information.
- Grant camera permission. Without this, you can’t take pictures of your ID and yourself from the verification page. Still not working? Try refreshing the page or restarting the process after granting permission.
- Use high-quality photos. Take photos in a well-lit space, keep the documents and camera steady and your ID within the frame, and check that your face is clear and not obscured for selfies.
- Submit photos of an original (not photocopied) and undamaged ID. If the ID has 2 sides, such as a driver's license or national ID card, you’ll need to submit photos of the front and back.
- Make sure you’re submitting a valid ID type. Only national IDs, passports, and driver’s licenses are accepted.
