Taddeo Roccasalda – Translator

I’ve been a book translator since 2006 and I specialize in translating fiction from English to Italian. I hold a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures and a specialization in Literary translation. My main areas of expertise include (urban) fantasy, crime and spy stories as well as poetry and non-fiction. In addition to literature, I translate travel books and technical documents which – however strange it may seem – have often helped me in my literary job. Thanks to my background in publishing, I also carry out professional proofreading, therefore I can deliver fully proofread translations of manuscripts.

Throughout my career, I’ve mainly worked for traditional (Italian) publishers like Bompiani, Newton Compton and Fanucci but I’d be delighted to start and develop long-lasting collaborations with self-publishing authors in order to convey their freedom of thought and expression into the Italian language. When I translate books, I experience pleasure not only in deciphering phrases, puns, images and metaphors but also in faithfully capturing the writer’s style. To this end - whenever possible, of course - I like to work closely with authors to clear up any ambiguities which may arise in the interpretation of texts.
