Overview

First published in 1987 with the lit-fic short story “The Mailbox,” in the decades since I've published humor, mystery, horror, poetry, urban fantasy, and science fiction, including Star Trek short stories and novellas at Simon & Schuster. I was an in-house editor at a publishing company where I specialized in military and aerospace history, but as a full-time freelancer I focus on fiction in my favorite genres to read: science fiction, fantasy, and similar subgenres.

As the primary copyeditor of Star Trek novels for Simon & Schuster, I’ve worked with such New York Times bestselling authors as David Mack and Kirsten Beyer. Kirsten has said that “[Scott] brings a deep knowledge of the universe, a keen eye for best possible word choices, and mastery of grammar and usage to my stories. I am always relieved when I see his name on one of my works because I know that I’m about to enter into a dialogue with a trusted partner as I review his notes. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone in need of an editor.”

I look forward to using my experience as both an editor and a writer to guide you to your best manuscript while maintaining your voice throughout your work.

Scott did an excellent job with my manuscript. His copyedits are thorough, helpful, and easy to understand. He also made considerable efforts to explaining his reasoning through the use of comments. He pointed out not only errors, but ways for me to improve my writing in places. (He also did an excellent job of pointing out when things didn't quite make sense.) He was also incredibly professio...

Scott had a lot of his plate, and still delivered on getting my manuscript done in time. A professional in time and in work. His comments were precise and technical and helped ready my manuscript for another draft.

I was very happy with the edits Mr. Pearson made. I felt like the edits and suggestions he made were compatible with the tone I was looking to keep. He improved the quality and readability without changing my story. He was also helpful and looked into information outside his realm as an editor. This is my first book and I am more than pleased with the results.

Scott has been fantastic to work with. He kept me updated throughout and I was aware from the outset that he wouldn't be able to immediately jump onto my manuscript. His edits are consistent and fair, and the explanation given makes perfect sense. Scott clearly reads the story and takes in the details of the setting and characters - and despite my manuscript already passing through two other pr...
