Overview

First published in 1987 with the lit-fic short story “The Mailbox,” in the decades since I've published humor, mystery, horror, poetry, urban fantasy, and science fiction, including Star Trek short stories and novellas at Simon & Schuster. I was an in-house editor at a publishing company where I specialized in military and aerospace history, but as a full-time freelancer I focus on fiction in my favorite genres to read: science fiction, fantasy, and similar subgenres.

As the primary copyeditor of Star Trek novels for Simon & Schuster, I’ve worked with such New York Times bestselling authors as David Mack and Kirsten Beyer. Kirsten has said that “[Scott] brings a deep knowledge of the universe, a keen eye for best possible word choices, and mastery of grammar and usage to my stories. I am always relieved when I see his name on one of my works because I know that I’m about to enter into a dialogue with a trusted partner as I review his notes. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone in need of an editor.”

I look forward to using my experience as both an editor and a writer to guide you to your best manuscript while maintaining your voice throughout your work.

Scott has been fantastic to work with. He kept me updated throughout and I was aware from the outset that he wouldn't be able to immediately jump onto my manuscript. His edits are consistent and fair, and the explanation given makes perfect sense. Scott clearly reads the story and takes in the details of the setting and characters - and despite my manuscript already passing through two other pr...

When I was shopping Reedsy for a copy editor to work on my science fiction manuscript, Scott made the top of my list primarily for his editing experience in that genre and his past work with some of sci-fi’s major luminaries. (It really does make a difference to work with someone who is familiar with the memes and unique language of your genre). I couldn't have found a better copy editor. Scott...
