Overview

First published in 1987 with the lit-fic short story “The Mailbox,” in the decades since I've published humor, mystery, horror, poetry, urban fantasy, and science fiction, including Star Trek short stories and novellas at Simon & Schuster. I was an in-house editor at a publishing company where I specialized in military and aerospace history, but as a full-time freelancer I focus on fiction in my favorite genres to read: science fiction, fantasy, and similar subgenres.

As the primary copyeditor of Star Trek novels for Simon & Schuster, I’ve worked with such New York Times bestselling authors as David Mack and Kirsten Beyer. Kirsten has said that “[Scott] brings a deep knowledge of the universe, a keen eye for best possible word choices, and mastery of grammar and usage to my stories. I am always relieved when I see his name on one of my works because I know that I’m about to enter into a dialogue with a trusted partner as I review his notes. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone in need of an editor.”

I look forward to using my experience as both an editor and a writer to guide you to your best manuscript while maintaining your voice throughout your work.

I gave my manuscript to Scott on a bit of short notice. He had the capacity to have a deep look into my book and he kept his word and stayed in the timeframe. I found his insight useful as he also described how I made the mistake. I'm not a native English speaker and he also raised my awareness when I wrote something that doesn't really exist in English. Scott always replied to my messages with...

It was a pleasure working with Scott on the copyediting of my first manuscript. I'm very glad to have found him on Reedsy as I was looking for someone experienced in the science fiction genre with a technical background. Not an easy find! He was the perfect fit for my book, which is filled with math and science jargon. Communication was quick and smooth and his edits and comments were very ...
