Overview

I’m Griffin Smith, an editorial project manager with over 15 years of developmental editing, line editing, and publishing experience.

I have worked as a freelance developmental editor for many book publishers, including Barnes and Noble, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, and Collectors Press, among others.

I specialize in editing fiction (e.g., Crime/Thriller, Science fiction/Fantasy, Dystopian, Action/Adventure, and other genres) as well as creative nonfiction (Memoirs & Biographies).

I offer services in:
  • Developmental editing
  • Substantive editing
  • Manuscript editing
  • Structural editing
  • Line editing
  • Copyediting
  • Proofreading

I work with first-time writers looking to publish, as well as veteran authors to forge their fiction into magnificent, salable works of art.

I will edit your story completely.

That means I’ll do an editorial assessment, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

After the editing process, I can help you publish your book. I’ll walk you through the hurdles of cover design, formatting, and self-publishing.

I’ll show you how and personally help you make your story into a hardcover, paperback, and/or Kindle eBook.

Allow me to apply my professional editing experience. I will help you take your story from manuscript to market.

Please leave me a message if you need more information or are looking for a specific service. I’ll work with you to develop an editing plan. Ask as many questions as you like, I’m happy to answer them.

All the best,
Griffin Smith

She and I had been in contact over the years, during which she asked quite a few questions; so, I began writing it all down. I may hav... read more

Griffin has been an absolute joy to work with. With much patience he has guided this novice author through the labyrinth of today’s complex publishing world. His insights go well beyond coaching me on the craft of refining and polishing my writing, which was no small task. He has also enlightened me on the business aspect of publishing, and helped me establish a brand from ground zero. I highly...

Second verse same as the first. Griffin Smith is great. If you have an action-packed story he'll make sure your pacing is solid, trim the fat, and point out where your story needs to be bulked up. In my case, it was sub plots and world-building. I got laser-focused on the main story so I was blind to it. Griffin helped me figure out the problems that needed fixing with plenty of good suggesti...

After an early hiccup stemming from a miscommunication, I expressed my concern and he immediately responded with diligence and professionalism which further deepened our partnership. He also provided an exceptionally insightful analysis to the ending of my ...

Griffin Smith gave me deep, actionable feedback that was pretty spot on and easy to act upon. His editorial letter came with 8 pages of feedback covering everything from plot, descriptions, characters, and then some. Basically, if it needed fixing he pointed it out clearly and made suggestions on corrective action. Currently fixing up my manuscript, going through the annotated one he sent bac...

Griffin is a very capable and courteous editor. He always offered me honest, constructive feedback in all aspects of the editing process. Griffin helped me to refine the pacing, plot points, and characters in my novel. In addition to focusing the big-picture issues, he provided me with detailed line edits, copyediting, proofreading, and formatting for a fair price and within a reasonable time f...
