Overview
I'm a former journalist (apologies for that!) who edits bestselling and award-winning nonfiction titles for a wide range of well-known UK and US publishers, including Phaidon Kids, Kane Miller, Ivy Kids, words & pictures, Wide-Eyed Editions, Leaping Hare Press, White Lion Publishing, and Frances Lincoln. I've worked with authors such as Roxane Gay, Isabel Thomas, Jamia Wilson, Dany Sigwalt, Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, and Caroline Quentin. I have a BA in Geography (minor in Professional Writing) from a Canadian university (Victoria), where I honed my journalistic training. Upon moving to the UK, I became a music and culture journalist and the news editor for the National Trust Magazine before working for a variety of travel guides and completing an MA in Writing from Bath Spa University. I now specialize in editing picture-led nonfiction and fiction, for both children and adults.
As an editor, I get enormous satisfaction from turning ideas and writings into a published book – one that readers will love and cherish having read. I want nothing more than to spread this love! Whether you are fascinated by the endless wonders of the natural world, social justice concepts, art for children, international culture and history, biography, or children's fiction, I can help bring your best possible work to the table. First, we focus on your overall message and tone. Then we figure out how to fit all your zingy ideas and narrative into this bigger picture. It's a bit of a puzzle to work into shape, and can include images and illustrations, if suitable. Once we're happy with the structure, I'm happy to do line-by-line edits. I love being an editor, and I try to extend this joy to the authors I work with.
