Expert editing for busy scholars who want to excel at work and be more present at home. PhD. Specialize: social sci, humanities, nonfiction.

Overview

When I was a professor, I often struggled to balance my teaching, research, and service responsibilities, and my writing inevitably got pushed aside in favor of tasks with more pressing deadlines. When I did have time to focus on research (usually during "vacation" time), I felt overwhelmed by having to choose which journal to submit to, revising my references list, and applying every detail of the submission guidelines. I never realized that copy editors existed or that they could help me accomplish my publishing goals.

As an editor, I now have a toolbox of tricks to format and revise your text quickly and effectively so you can direct your energy to other tasks. My job is not only to proofread your manuscript and make sure the argument is clear; it's also to guide you through the publishing and job market landscapes so you can get published faster and land a job without being so overwhelmed.

If you've put off submitting a paper or drafting a book proposal because you don't have the time or knowledge to get started, or if you're struggling to finalize your job letters, please reach out. I have a strong record of publishing peer-reviewed research and I've landed two tenure-track jobs and one VAP position, so I know what it takes to succeed in these areas.

I earned my PhD in political science and worked as a US politics professor for ten years. I have several peer-reviewed journal articles and a book on U.S. public opinion and the #MeToo movement, so I know what it takes to develop a research project and get published. I also spent a year working on energy and environmental policy in the US Senate for Jack Reed (RI).

I have revised over 60 academic books, and I currently freelance for several academic publishers, including Edward Elgar. I also work for Summersdale Publishers (UK), copy editing and proofreading health, parenting, and wellness books. My website includes a selection of the projects I've completed.

Paulina did an exceptional job editing my paper. I am so grateful. She caught those easy-to-miss discrepancies on the author-year references. She also suggested some word choices and asked for additional clarity. Paulina's edits on the references were fantastic! I know I can submit my paper with confidence that the references are correct. This is a major research project and Paulina has helped...
