Overview

I'm the world's leading expert on ski resorts, my first book on skiing published 35 years ago when I was 20, a dozen more since and contributing to many more projects by others over the years. I built the first database of over 6,000 ski areas located in 90 countries in the 1990s, licensed to the BBC and Microsoft in the era of CD ROMs and the early internet I'm a writer, editor and researcher for dozens of magazines, newspapers, cartographic projects, websites worldwide. I've visited more than 3000 ski areas around the world personally, often travelling with my family and have unrivaled ski industry knowledge and contacts.

My unparalleled knowledge of ski resorts includes much more than their ski runs, mountains, scenery, access, restaurants, hotels and off-slope activities. I've detailed religious buildings, medical facilities, connections to the world's royalty, history, family facilities and suitability, flora and fauna - everything about them. I have worked on numerous projects for books, apps, websites, atlases, directories, magazines, databases, videos and TV shows around the world from my office, The Snow Centre, on my eight -acre small-holding n the Highlands of Scotland.

Apart from the most extensive general knowledge of the global winter-sports travel business, I have a number of niche specialties including being an expert of climate change and ski resorts (I've run since 2004), indoor snow centres and artificial surface ski slopes which has won an award from the International Skiing History Organisation in 2020. I have also researched and self-published a book on snow and mountains located by NASA and other agencies on other planets and moons in the solar system, Snow In Space.
