Overview
As an editor, I've led multiple publishing projects from commissioning to completion for Rough Guides, including the award-nominated first edition Pocket Rough Guide to Reykjavík and another title I conceived: a photobook entitled You Are Here. To quote one long-standing Rough Guides author, I bring an 'eagle-eyed' approach to editorial work.
I'm also a freelance writer. One Telegraph editor recently called me (with not a bribe in sight) 'a master of writing words'. I'm a regular contributor of travel features to that newspaper, as well as The Guardian, The Independent and (before it folded) The Sunday Times Travel Magazine. I wrote The Rough Guide to Xbox from scratch and authored the first editions of the Wallpaper* City Guides to Liverpool and Manchester. I used to write restaurant reviews for Time Out's annual London Eating & Drinking Guide, which is no longer published.
I'm also a copywriter and ghostwriter for a range of clients, including a leading executive coach and a large tech company.
Short (fiction) stories are my bag, too. You can find one of mine online if you search for 'Old Man in a Tracky'.
My most recent in-house role was as deputy editorial director at Culture Trip, where I oversaw all Asia Pacific content.
