Michael Matheson

Michael Matheson – Editor

Award-nominated spec fic and romance developmental and copy editor. 21 years experience, including for Harlequin, CZP, and Ravenstone.

Overview

There’s an axiom about editing that holds true: Bad editing is immediately apparent, good editing is invisible. The best editors help produce a book that appears as though it was crafted in a literary immaculate conception. And who doesn't want their work to appear flawless from the jump?

For 21 years I've been helping people do exactly that. I've made clients' work shine for fiction publishers like Harlequin, ChiZine, and Ravenstone. I've done it through TTRPG and board game publishers like Green Ronin, R. Talsorian, and Lynnvander. And I've helped a whole host of indie authors get their work gleaming.

As a published writer in my own right, I understand the need to find the perfect home for our work and to have a good experience getting there. Whether we go through traditional or self-publishing, we want our stories to be treated well at all levels of production. And that starts with good editing.

I primarily offer developmental/substantive, copy, and line editing services, and can offer proofreading and editorial assessments as needed. All at reasonable rates, because we're all just trying to get our work out the door without breaking the bank.

Whatever your next step is, I'm here to help you reach it.

If I could have given less than a star, I would have. He is a very talented editor but unreliable. I paid for the full book to be edited but he sent back, after the deadline, a book only a quarter edited. I gave him more time because he said that he lost a great deal of the edits. He claims that something happened to his computer. Then he ghosted me for seven weeks and didn't send me another si...
