Overview
From student to paralegal to writer to proofreader to copy editor. The first two I tucked into the experience cabinet, and the latter three I hone to this day. As a student, I majored in philosophy, political science, and international studies, so I was always writing formal academia; between that and being a paralegal, I was a taekwondo instructor, and I was always writing the correspondence and touching up on marketing for my grandmaster. As a paralegal, I wrote the opening reports and medical summaries of incoming cases. Since before all that, and now, I still write fiction (mostly) for fun (mostly). And, yes, I've been a copyeditor-proofreader for the past four years, and I love it.
I can't read without seeing the words and punctuation from a mechanical perspective. People call me to discuss dashes and commas and whether to use them in a single sentence. Sometimes, I read the Chicago Manual of Style for fun. Ok, TMI. After your developmental editor has had a go, I hope to hear from you.
