Lois Wilson-McFarland

Lois Wilson-McFarland – Editor

Editor with experience working in children's and YA fiction.

Overview

I'm an editor and academic with experience working in children's, teens' and YA books. I spent three years in-house at Scottish children's publisher Floris Books, where I had the pleasure of working on The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie (Blue Peter Book Award & Scottish Children’s Book Award winner) and Ferryman by Claire McFall (Scottish Children’s Book Award winner). My freelance clients include Canongate, Ebury, 404 Ink, Floris Books, Barrington Stoke, Bright Red Publishing, Jenny Brown Associates and North Ayrshire Council.

I love working with writers and encouraging them along their journey to publication. My feedback style is friendly and conversational, and I enjoy getting to know clients as we work together. I pride myself on attention to detail but take a light touch with editing, as I believe the author's voice should resonate throughout the work. Usually the editorial process has a few different stages, and I am very happy to tailor our plan to whatever your project requires. We would be in touch frequently throughout the process and check in at every stage of development.
