Jessica Smith

Jessica Smith – Editor

Advocate for inclusivity and diversity; #OwnVoices reader for queer/mentally ill characters. I specialize in romance, fantasy, and poetry.

Overview

A dedicated, hard-working professional bookworm with six years of publishing experience and more than 250 titles closed to print as production editor so far, including New York Times and USA Today best-selling books such as the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert and King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair. Enthusiastic self-starter with a passion for written works and the village of people that makes them possible. I've worked primarily on romance and women's fiction in the past, but now work mainly on academic texts, monographs, short story collections, and poetry in my day job and fantasy, sci-fi, and romance in my freelance work. In my free time I read everything from nonfiction on international relations to steamy paranormal romance and a whole lot in between. My specialties include project management, copy editing, and proofreading.

I take a holistic approach to my projects, identifying any pain points, creating and maintaining a style sheet for your book to ensure accuracy and consistency based on Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary (or your preferred style guide/dictionary), and using my experience and knowledge of the bookmaking and publishing processes as a whole to serve as more than a copy editor or proofreader--I hope that I can be a resource for any questions you might have about the publishing/book production process as a whole.

We had to cancel this collaboration due to Jessica’s illness, but she was very sweet to let me know beforehand. From the time we did talk, she was very communicative, professional, and sounded very excited to work on my second poetry book. I hope we can work together again next time!

Jessica was so great to work with. She was very professional, responsive, and thorough when it came to working on my book. She gave great feedback and suggestions. I have no doubts that my book is better because of her.
