Julia King

Julia King – Editor

Former HarperCollins senior editor passionate about elegant writing, powerful storytelling, and building strong relationships with writers.

Overview

Hi there! My name is Julia and I’ve been a professional book editor for over a decade. For seven years I worked in-house as a senior editor at HarperCollins before moving to freelancing, and my clients now include Penguin Random House, Harlequin, Entangled, Hachette, and Pan Macmillan. I am passionate about elegant writing, powerful storytelling, and building strong relationships with writers.

I specialise in commercial fiction, particularly romance, YA, thrillers/suspense, fantasy, paranormal, and more. I offer structural editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading services. (If you're not sure what you need, just let me know and I can help!) My approach is warm and collaborative; your vision for the book always comes first, and my authors feel supported, understood, and free to trust their own instincts.

On top of my professional experience, I have an MA in publishing, a BA in English literature, and a diploma in book editing. I am a native English speaker experienced in editing both US and UK English.

I have worked with Julia many times and have been very pleased with her work on all of my books. She is intuitive and clever and has a terrific work ethic. We managed to work out the time difference between where I am in NY and she is in Australia with no issue. Her work is impeccable.

Julia proofread a novel for me and I was very happy with her work. Edits were very thorough and detailed and she provided explanations/suggestions where needed and a copy of the style guide she used. Would definitely hire Julia again for editing.
