Overview
I have 13 years of professional reporting, writing, and editing experience. I got my start in New York City, where I worked at several national magazines, including Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, and Seventeen. For the last six years, I've been freelancing from my home in Tampa, Florida. I write features for a wide variety of national magazines, including Women's Health, Men's Health, Scholastic classroom magazines, and Prevention.Regarding books, I collaborated with the Editor-in-Chief of Woman's Day on a book called When Action Follows Heart: 365 Ways to Share Kindness (Hay House, Inc). I contributed reporting to that book. I was also involved in the promotion of The Gene Therapy Plan (Penguin) by the late Mitchell Gaynor, M.D. I worked with a media team for a year prior to its release, ghostwriting blogs and social media posts related to the book.I specialize mainly in health, especially women's health (breast cancer, heart disease, weight loss, nutrition, osteoporosis, eating disorders, migraines, sex, pregnancy, psychology) and teen-oriented topics. I also do in-depth profiles of people with compelling personal stories and tackle subjects such as business, finance, and parenting. I have a lot of experience reading complicated medical studies, regularly interviewing MDs, PhDs and non-profit leaders, and carefully considering ethics, sensitivities, and legal issues with certain word choices and phrasing. I know how to explain a complex subject in conversational language, so if you're a scientist who uses vocabulary that's over a layperson's head or if you're a CEO who speaks in industry jargon, I can help translate when necessary.Since my background is in the world of "service" magazines, I'm trained to write/edit with the intent of giving the reader clear and actionable tips. Maybe you're an expert and you want to convey your insights, lessons, or advice in an organized, understandable way to help others? I can help you pluck out the key points, let you know when more clarification is needed, and present the information in a way that's engaging. On a personal level, I hope you'll find me to be a meticulous reader, a good listener, and a kind person who provides thoughtful guidance. As a writer, I've been edited many times, so I know exactly how it feels to receive feedback. I'm a positive person who would love to help you shine.
