Jaime McGill – Translator

I've been translating from German to English since 2009: first in Berlin, where I lived for 11 years, and now in Tennessee. English is my native language, while German has been part of my life for more than 30 years; I consider myself lucky to spend my work days exploring the subtle expressive differences between the two.

I've had the pleasure of translating more than two dozen published novels, including six for AmazonCrossing. My previous projects have spanned numerous genres - romance novels, crime thrillers, fantasy, you name it! If I haven't translated a book in your genre, I'm even more eager to get started.

I love discovering each author's unique voice and puzzling out how to capture it in English. Anywhere but Home, the bestselling debut novel by screenwriter Daniel Speck, was one of my favorites for this, because the author placed great importance on a beautiful-sounding translation. The Shadowdust trilogy (Greg Walters, Mira Valentin, Sam Feuerbach) was another fantastic challenge, because the original is laugh-out-loud funny and packed with puns and poems.

Besides a BA in German Studies, I also have a graduate degree in music, so if you need a translator with a musical background... look no further! I've translated and edited musicology papers, liner notes for several classical labels, and music app content.
