Helena Álvarez de la Miyar – Translator

Here I am!: A freelancer with quite a long list of published translated works into Spanish, covering a wide variety of topics and titles —from Life (Keith Richard’s bio) to The Secret Lives of Color or the rather brainy Adaptive Markets: Financial Evolution at the Speed of Thought. I have worked with a number of publishers, such as Planeta, Booket, Titania, La esfera de los libros, Indicios, Global Rhythm Press, Antoni Bosch, Umbriel, Empresa Activa, Books4pocket... You could say I lead a double agent life: A simultaneous interpreter (spoken translator with a UN freelancer's credential) by day; and an avid reader and translator by night (and/or on weekends). Because, in the end, what I like best are words and I cannot help it: my “big love” is books in general and literary fiction in particular (although I also do a lot of Bios, Management and Strategy and some serious Finance and Economics).

As for the dynamics of our collaboration, I love to work keeping a constant open flow of communication with publishers and/or authors, discussing doubts and potential nuances, keeping it faithful, real and relevant when it comes to language and accurate and truthful if we speak of content. It’s somebody else’s ingenuity, wit and sensitivity I work with. My job is to give it all a voice in Spanish.
